Fans of Firefly are also known as Browncoats. The term was first suggested as the collective label for fans was first made on the official Firefly message board during the initial run of the series on October 4 of 2002 by posters Boradis and Mother Magi.

It's thanks to the support of Browncoats that the movie Serenity exists.
