The Alliance's key strategist and tactician during the Unification War was General Yu Kwan, who won major victories at the Battle of Sihnon, Bellerophon, Boros, and finally Du-Khang (in 2510), driving Independent forces out of key systems. Kwan understood the concept of total war and realized, along with Lao, that only the utter defeat of Independent forces would bring an end to the war. At the beginning of 2509, Kwan was given command of all Alliance armies. He chose to make his headquarters on Bellerophon, although he did not usually take direct command of that system’s army.
