Background: Haikain hails from the Shiin Archipelago, a land peopled by agrarian, easygoing descendents of pirate clans that once settled there. Curious from birth, he grew up a scion of the small enclave of scholars and teachers that lived among the clans. As he learned and did his own investigating, he became convinced that there is some kind of ultimate ideal, some Truth that underlies all that is. Utlilizing his natural cartographic skill, he became a treasured member of the community for the order he could bring out of the chaos of natural contours and landscapes. Never satisfied, he followed his wanderlust out into the world, and has been traveling ever since.

Description: Haikain is a squat, swarthy man with twinkling brown eyes and curly sandy hair. Cleanshaven, his clothes always manage to pick up the mud and dust from the road. He travels with a bulging backpack, almost as large as he, a keen machete, and a small wheeled cart that he pulls himself. Quiet and easygoing, he always manages to fall into situations and places where he's not especially wanted, but more often than not turns out to be surprisingly useful.

Goals: His ultimate goal is to discover the underlying order of existence. Failing that, he absolutely loves to map out new and unexplored territory. He comes to Green Lake seeking two things in particular. First, he wishes to fill in the maps of the region, which have strangely omitted both the lake and the surrounding wood. Secondly, several scattered clues that he has picked up from various sources seem to indicate some kind of wondrous object or something, just awaiting discovery, in the area. A student of both the natural and esoteric worlds, he can't help scratching his curiosity bug.
