Sources of Healing

There are two types of dedicated healers in Shadow World. The first is the "theist" healer, such as the sisters of Eissa, who take wounds upon themselves from others, and then can heal themselves. The second are "lay healers," meaning essentially physicians who use magic to aid their art. They can accelerate healing, and do a lot of things otherwise impossible (regeneration of lost limbs, or destroyed organs, for instance), but have absolutely no "instant" healing ability.

Many religious organizations also teach minor healing abilities to their members - but these all tend to be like the lay healer magic in terms of speed and efficacy. Or only stop things like shock and blood loss. Magical first aid, essentially.

Given the pain that an empathic healer has to go through, instant healing is rare in this world. Also, there's no "generic" healing. Each ability to heal is learned separately, like a doctor. That is, one might specialize in pathology, another in muscular trauma, another in skeletal trauma, another in dealing with organ damage, blood tissue replacement, etc. - actually they all tend to have a number of these things. But there is no "Heal Wound" ability that can handle just any source of damage (like in the HQ book). You have to have many abilities to be a well-rounded healer.

Another potent source of healing is herbs. But, like other forms of healing, curall herbs are rare to non-existant. Most herbs will cure only one thing or another.

Given the general rarity of healers and the herbs in question, often healing services are only available to the wealthy (depends greatly on the location of the source).
