BackgroundFirst, the local events that started the whole thing. This takes place in the city that used to exist on the shores of the lake: 3700 years ago - not being one to rush (OK, it's hard to concentrate when you're mostly insane), the Sorcerer begins to infiltrate the city in various ways. The city responds in two ways. First they set up a magical dome to amplify the power of their most powerful mentalists (who work in linked pairs) to combat the percieved emanations coming out of the White Wood. They know that it's cursed, but not precisely how. This backfires, however, as the Sorcerer manages to corrupt the process, making the dome instead work for him. It takes about a century before people realize the nature of the cult that's forming around the dome.
3500 YA - Now knowing about the corruption amongst the city populace having reached a threatening level, the priest-shamans of the religious order devise a plan to build their largest temple yet, to capture two Majestic Spirits in gems inside them. The idea being that these two will be able to shield the city from the power of the White Wood. This is very ambitious, and they almost succeed. Would have succeeded, in fact, except that the mentalists interfere at the last moment, and the temple, built on an artificially reclaimed island in Green Lake, sinks to the bottom of the lake. Civil war erupts the same day, and the temple is never raised again. Within a decade, the city is barely held by the dying remnants of the loyal populace, and becomes completely untenable with the problems of monsters issuing from the White Wood. The remaining people divide up into several groups and head away from the White Wood in various directions. (Some of these people would eventually become the Tethians, after they settle Teth Hold.
Isadora's goal is to recreate the ritual for dealing with the two majestic spirits still trapped in the lake, but see it through successfully this time. At the end of it, hopefully, the two spirits will be connected in a friendly fashion to the Rhiani Swift Stallion Tradition. Heroquest: Terian Ensconses the Twin SpiritsBelow are brief descriptions of the stations of the quest. It's important to understand that these are the steps of the original quest, which attempt failed. Performed identically, the quest should fail again for some reason based on the interference. So part of the quest will also be in detecting where the interference happens, and eliminating it. Or working around it in some fashion. Stations
If players want to add stations, or roles to the quest, so as to better involve their characters, we can certainly add elements to the heroquest. Character ContributionsSituational BonusesBefore I knew anything about Isadora's potential quest, Archie's pet head offered Egani a quest opportunity and Mike and I spent a couple weeks of email working out the outline and some details. I've more or less joined the rest of you in not being particularly interested in it at this point. During the extended discussions about various heroquests, I came up with an idea for a ritual that Mike and I ended up agreeing wasn't really a HQ having to do with an ancient birthing ritual -- to be practiced on Orca's birth and then executed on Marcia's. But details were a little light and Mike came up with the idea that it would be linked to Isadora's quest. He seemed to have a lot of backstory that linked things together into a collosal destiny kind of thing, which is cool if it's pulled off, but...I dunno. I don't know if I see it happening. I don't feel any particular investment in having Egani be a part of things, so feel free to do whatever from my POV. But I expect he'd be totally easy to involve, too. --Chris |
