The setting is ICE's old Shadow World setting for Rolemaster. I chose this setting specifically for it's "typical" nature - what's sometimes refered to as "Standard Fantasy." I did this because what I'm doing with the game is showing how by using a different system, you can actually "finally" accomplish the telling of the stories of all of those D&D characters (and those forged in similar systems) who we played, but who, "Storywise", never really went anywhere. Killing stuff and taking it's treasure doth not a story make. In fact, following the GM's carefully crafted plotline doth not the player's story for the character make. Only the player can tell the characters story with the GM as collaborator. If one is to have closure. Or so the theory goes. So select a character who is similar to one that you've played before in another fantasy game, but whose story you feel was not played to it's completion. Or a character who you would have played, but which would not have served well using another system. For example, a character who is unable to kill anything. Basically, select a character concept for their thematic potential, and general interest. The hope is that we'll be able to allow, you, the player, to author the story of this character. |
