  • [20:12:48] Holmes: Sebastian comes around the corner of the row of tents to find Isadora talking to her sister, Leuta.
  • [20:13:43] Isadora: "...So it's wonderful to see you again, but we have to decide where you're going now--oh. Hello, Sebastian."
  • [20:14:55] Holmes: Leuta drops her head a bit. "Oh, BTW, I saw that man, what's his name, the wizard?"
  • [20:15:13] Sebastian: "Salast?"
  • [20:15:16] Isadora: "Salast?"
  • [20:15:36] Holmes: She looks up hoping that she's successfully changed the subject, trying to engage the two of them. "Yes, that's him."
  • [20:15:55] Isadora: "What about him?" Isadora seems at least temporarily sidetracked.
  • [20:16:47] Holmes: "Well, he and two of the guards - I was over near the lake, and I saw them headed out towards some of the swampy area. They had big packs with them," she continues.
  • [20:17:00] Holmes: "I don't think they wanted to be seen."
  • [20:18:06] Isadora: "How long ago?" She sounds tense.
  • [20:18:48] Holmes: "Earlier today, just a couple of hours ago," she continues
  • [20:20:07] Isadora: "Do you happen to know who the guards were?"
  • [20:20:18] Holmes: She seems to note the concern on Isadora's and Sebastian's faces, and gets a worried look like they might scold her for not having told them earlier.
  • [20:20:38] Holmes: "I don't know the names of any of the guards, no," she says, her head going down again.
  • [20:20:43] Sebastian: "These excursions are becoming more and more public, my Lady. I believe that the esteemed Salast is beginning to feel pressed for time."
  • [20:20:59] * Sebastian gives a comforting smile to Leuta, "No one expects you to, my dear."
  • [20:21:18] * Isadora nods to Sebastian. "I think we need to go press him some more." She squeezes Leuta's arm. "You did well. I just need to have a talk with Salast, that's all."
  • [20:22:31] Sebastian: "I can have Alexander look into it if you wish, my Lady. I can leave you to finish your disucssion, it seemed important."
  • [20:24:20] * Isadora looks grim. "I'll have to talk to Leuta about this later. There are things you need to know about Salast, right away."
  • [20:28:14] Holmes: There's a little disturbance on the outside edge of the colony at this point, there seem to be some new arrivals.
  • [20:30:21] * Isadora cranes her neck to peer in that direction. To Sebastian, she says. "Walk with me that way? I'll tell you a story as we go."
  • [20:31:07] * Sebastian bows and falls into step, idly folding a piece of paper as he listens to Isadora.
  • [20:32:31] Holmes: As they approach the edge of the encampment, there are some bewildered looking Rhian standing there. They see Isadora and Sebastian coming.
  • [20:33:50] Isadora: "What's the fuss?" she calls ahead to them.
  • [20:35:49] Holmes: "May Cay give you strength," he says somewhat formally. "We were told that there was a Rhiani camp at this lake."
  • [20:36:17] * Sebastian steps back and lets Isadora handle first contact.
  • [20:37:31] Holmes: These folks have the look on them of the refugees that have been straggling up the river for months. The Rhiani have set up a supplementary camp for them just on the other side of thier main encampment.
  • [20:37:45] Holmes: These look rather worse than some of the previous arrivals.
  • [20:37:59] Holmes: The children look as if they can barely stay on the backs of the horses.
  • [20:38:10] Isadora: "Kuor be with you," Isadora responds, hoping that's close to appropriate. Hard to go wrong with big father gods. "Are you refugees? There's a camp for you, over that way."
  • [20:39:08] Holmes: "We are Rhiani," says the leader. There are about 15 of them all told, men women and children. "Our homes are where we are."
  • [20:39:31] Holmes: He uses the last of his energy to pull himself straight up on his horse.
  • [20:41:12] Isadora: "Well, if your homes happen to be in a hungry, drifting sort of place right now, you can rest here. I'm in charge of the Kaitaine camp."
  • [20:41:53] Holmes: "Ki-tayn?" he tries out the word. "What is Ki-tayn?"
  • [20:42:47] Isadora: "It's a wonderful city that's lamentably far away from here. We're here because we have business in the swamp, and our camp is next to the Rhiani setup."
  • [20:43:53] Holmes: The Rhiani leader shrugs. "We'll go talk to our brethren, then."
  • [20:44:41] * Sebastian looks among the new arrivals for a young child to cheer with a paper flower.
  • [20:44:55] Isadora: "Before you go... are you here from Sherezak?"
  • [20:46:40] Holmes: "We were at Sherezak when the darkness came, and hid in caves for months before heading up this way," he relates with furled brow. "Such horrors I doubt you've ever seen."
  • [20:47:54] Isadora: "You're probably quite right," Isadora says without a trace of regret. "Did you see anything on your way here that both camps would need to know about?"
  • [20:47:55] Holmes: "But we were no city-dwellers," he almost spits out the words.
  • [20:48:09] Isadora: "Of course not."
  • [20:49:00] Holmes: He nods, "There is nothing to the south, but the pursiut of horrors now. I think we're the last anyone will see coming from that way."
  • [20:50:08] * Isadora nods, hoping he's right. "I'll keep you no longer, then."
  • [20:55:17] * Sebastian finishes the paper flower he has been idly folding and approaches a young girl at the edge of the refugee group. He holds out the flower, "I hope you find peace and rest here, at the end of your long journey."
  • [20:56:13] Holmes: The girl turns away with a blank look on her face. The Rhiani proceed towards the other camp without looking back.
  • [20:56:41] Holmes: A small cloud of dust follows them as their tired horses drag their hooves behind them.
  • [20:57:57] * Sebastian sighs, "The weight on these people's shoulders is so great, I wish I could do something to lighten it." he mutters sadly.
  • [20:58:14] Holmes: The late afternoon sun seems to indeed beat down on them mercilessly as they go.

  • [21:14:16] Holmes: Sebastian heads back to his tent, and comes across Laura. She has a huge smile on her face.
  • [21:16:36] Sebastian: "Good afternoon, beautiful, what has made you so happy?" Sebastian asks with an answering smile.
  • [21:19:18] Holmes: She smiles even more widely. "Something about this place," she says.
  • [21:19:37] Holmes: She seems to be concealing something.
  • [21:21:03] Sebastian: "Oh, so that's how you want it?" Sebastian asks playfully, "You know I love a challenge." He smiles and examines her carefully, what could it be?
  • [21:26:16] Holmes: She circles him as if daring him to tear is our of her.
  • [21:27:13] Sebastian: Sebastian turns slowly, keeping her in view...
  • [21:37:08] Holmes: As she walks something about her gait is odd. Knowing her well, it suddenly snaps into his head. She's "catwalking".
  • [21:38:40] Holmes: She seems to somehow be reveling in Andaras.
  • [21:39:30] * Sebastian blinks in surprise. A half-pleased, half-perplexed look comes over his face, "You've been talking to Zoora haven't you?"
  • [21:42:00] Holmes: Her grin becomes more mischevious. "Maybe."
  • [21:43:08] Sebastian: An almost unwilling grin spreads accross Sebastian's face, he can't help but be happy when Laura is happy. "Well, aren't you going to tell me about it?" he asks mock-indignantly as he offers her his arm.
  • [21:44:28] Holmes: "Well, I don't know, it's supposed to be kinda secret," she says, still taunting him.
  • [21:45:05] Sebastian: "Secret you say? Well, it's a good thing I'm so good at finding out secrets the isn't it?"
  • [21:47:25] Holmes: "Oh, no you don't. Not fair to use your acumen on the one you love," she stops circling then, and looks deep into Sebastian's eyes.
  • [21:49:33] Sebastian: "Well then, it seems you have me at something of a disadvantage. What do you suggest then?"
  • [21:50:46] Holmes: She turns and falls backwards into his arms, "I suppose you'd find out eventually, what with those powers of observation of yours."
  • [21:51:35] Holmes: She looks back at him, "I've been initiated by Zoora into the fold of Andaras. The wisdom of the Lord of Cats is with me."
  • [21:52:56] Sebastian: Sebastian smiles, happy for her excitement. "Well then!" Then his face becomes a bit more serious, "What exactly does that mean? I must admit that I'm not very familiar with Andaras."
  • [21:57:28] Holmes: "Well, it means that I'm here for the duration," she says, a tad timmidly.
  • [21:57:46] Holmes: T He? cult here isn't the same as in Sel-Kai.
  • [21:59:37] * Sebastian looks to be at a loss for words. In a rare loss of control a number of conflicting expressions flit accross his face before he can reinstate a smile. "Well, uh, yes, uh... This is a bit unexpected..."
  • [22:00:58] Holmes: She gets a wistful look on her face, "I know, I didn't expect this to happen at all."
  • [22:01:10] Holmes: She looks apologetic.
  • [22:01:44] Sebastian: Sebastian tries to smile reassuringly. "Well, I don't really know what to say. I guess I hadn't realized how imporant Andaras was to you before..."
  • [22:02:58] Holmes: "Again, I wasn't sure, either. But Zoora has opened my eyes to the wonder of Andaras. I wish you could see what I mean," the last is almost a question.
  • [22:05:11] Sebastian: Sebastian looks into her eyes, almost sadly, "I wish I could too, but you know me, I've never really had much use for the gods. I wonder if this long life of secrecy has jaded me so much that I can no longer understand them."
  • [22:07:01] Holmes: Laura gets a chagrinned look on her face, "I know....it's just..."
  • [22:08:52] Holmes: She shakes her head and tries to smile again.
  • [22:09:08] Sebastian: Sebastian squeezes her, "Hey, it's not your fault. And you know that I'm happy for you. I don't know that I've seen you this giddy since that time when we scammed Silk Merchant's Guild... ten years ago?" His voice quiets, "Though I must admit, this will definately require some thought. You know I can't stay in one place for too long..."
  • [22:10:08] Holmes: "Well, at least you're here indefinitely for this assignment, right? They're not transfering you any time soon are they? The Ullizi aren't going to let an investment like this go without a good man watching it."
  • [22:11:41] Sebastian: "No they're not. I'm here until all this gets sorted out. We have at least that much time..."
  • [22:12:57] Holmes: She smiles, "Well, we're only together occasionally anyhow. So it's not all that different. You can come and visit me."
  • [22:13:24] Holmes: Somehow the thought of the City girl from Sel-Kai deciding to stay in a place like this just doesn't make sense.
  • [22:14:15] Sebastian: "Have you really thought this through, my love? I guess I just find it hard picturing you out here, away from the city life, permanently..."
  • [22:20:14] Holmes: As he looks into her eyes, he sees that there's something of the old Laura missing, as if it has been iced over, or replaced by something else. She's not herself.
  • [22:27:35] Sebastian: Sebastian tightens his arms around her and closes his eyes. He inhales deeply, remembering her as she truly is. "What can you tell me about Andaras, what kind of things has Zoora been teaching you? I know I've never been one for the gods before, but it's never too late to learn I guess..."

  • [20:22:20] Holmes: Okhfels sits at the Forge, the sun beginning to drop once again behind the white trees across the lake.
  • [20:22:58] Holmes: Something suddenly strikes him about the perspective of the whole scene. Those trees are very, very far away. The lake is bigger than it looks at first glance.
  • [20:23:18] * Okhfels knits his brow. He looks around.
  • [20:23:28] Holmes: The white trees must be gigantic. Truely titanic.
  • [20:24:25] Okhfels: "Hm."
  • [20:25:32] Holmes: Taking in this scene, he doesn't notice the new stranger coming into the camp, and nearing the Forge.
  • [20:25:34] Holmes: One of the guards does, however, and jumps up, "Who goes there?!"
  • [20:25:56] * Okhfels looks over at the stranger.
  • [20:26:05] * Okhfels , being a stranger himself...
  • [20:27:19] * Okhfels is a big, BIG man, with muscles and MORE muscles. His red hair and fair skin are usually stained with sweaty soot, though his teeth are clean and straight. His features look rough-hewn, bold and angular. His hair is not terribly long, but even so it's wildly unruly.
  • [20:27:41] Haikain: "Hrm?" The squat man looks up, his features shadowed by the large floppy hat he wears. He takes another step forward, then straightens, letting the small cart he's pulling rest.
  • [20:28:51] Holmes: "Who are you?" the guard insists.
  • [20:28:59] * Haikain takes off his hat to wipe his brow, revealing a cleanshaven, swarthy face with an amiable, but distracted air about it. His brown eyes twinkle as he smiles at the guard.
  • [20:29:21] * Okhfels gets up from where he's sitting and wanders over to the confrontation.
  • [20:29:27] Holmes: The guard grabs his spear which was leaning on a tent not too far away from him, trying to look tough.
  • [20:30:03] Haikain: Giving a small bow, he says "My name is Haikain. May I enter this encampment?"
  • [20:30:40] * Haikain looks at Okhfels as he approaches
  • [20:30:56] Holmes: "That's a funny Shay accent, where are you from?" the guard queries.
  • [20:32:54] Haikain: "The islands of Shiin, beyond the Scorpion Ridge. In fact, its almost exactely...mmm..." He tilts back his head and squints at the stars, muttering numbers to himself.
  • [20:33:46] Holmes: "Never heard of it," says the guard. "What's your business he says, looking into the cart over his shoulder."
  • [20:36:14] Haikain: "My business? Merely that of the travelling carographer. I actually wanted to wander around the lake for a while, but I saw the camp. I figured a hot meal and safe rest would be valuable."
  • [20:40:12] Haikain: The cart is a small box, but looks quite heavy and wellcrafted, strengthened with iron strappings. The top is fastened with ropes tied around all four sides. Haikain pulls it by a handle extending from its base and reaching to a comfortable height for his arms.
  • [20:40:17] Holmes: The guard looks a bit non-plussed at the answer, and looks around unsure of himself.
  • [20:40:42] Holmes: Eventually he looks at Okhfels with a little shrug that says, "So...is that OK or not?"
  • [20:41:15] Haikain: "Do you welcome hungry strangers to this camp, my friend? If not, I would not be inconvenienced, but if so, it would be...nice."
  • [20:44:42] Holmes: "Well, it's a matter of...see we can't just let everyone who comes by eat our provisio... I should ask somebody higher up," he says mostly inconclusively.
  • [20:49:30] Haikain: "I'll tell you what, friend. Until you figure out what to do, I'll just start setting up my own camp over there." He gestures to a spot about 10 paces from the guard. "That way, I'll have somewhere to sleep no matter what."
  • [20:52:52] Holmes: The guard goes off to find someone to ask. Passing him, coming the other way, is a grey headed man looking up for something.
  • [20:54:28] * Haikain puts his hat back on and starts patting at his pockets
  • [20:55:41] Archelaus: The old man nearly run right into Haikain.
  • [20:57:27] * Haikain notices the old man at the last moment, but too late...they collide
  • [20:58:28] * Haikain stumbles and falls. "By the Great Spirit! Did you now see me, elder?"
  • [20:58:48] Archelaus: He stop suddenly, loses his balance and falls backwards to the ground.
  • [21:00:34] * Archelaus dusts himself off an attempts be gracious.
  • [21:01:03] Archelaus: "I'm am most terribly sorry, but I was finding my way you see."
  • [21:01:39] Haikain: "Excuse me, elder, I should have been paying more attention. Can I help you to your destination?"
  • [21:03:18] Archelaus: "I was looking for my student Tehu."
  • [21:03:48] Holmes: Tehu speaks up, "I'm over here...teacher."
  • [21:04:08] Holmes: Apparently Tehu has been sitting at the main fire avoiding Archelaus.
  • [21:04:31] Haikain: "Teacher? I do not wish to keep you from your student, but may I ask of what?"
  • [21:04:48] Archelaus: "I could have sworn the stars were pointing towards the lake."
  • [21:05:03] Archelaus: "I study them, the stars that is."
  • [21:06:00] Haikain: "Oh? How odd."
  • [21:06:32] Archelaus: "Yes, usually they lead me right to him."
  • [21:06:54] Haikain: "Oh? You study the art of mapping as well?"
  • [21:08:29] Archelaus: "Are you also an astronomer? Or is your mapping of another kind?"
  • [21:09:46] Haikain: "Astronomer? Oh no, I am a cartogropher. While I find the stars to be useful tools, it is the contours of the earth and sea that concern me."
  • [21:10:31] Holmes: The guard arrives back leading Captain Jilliams and Isadora. "That's him," he says, pointing at Haikain. "He said he was a cargogmafer. Probably some foul magic having to do with the stuff in the cart."
  • [21:11:20] Archelaus: "But how can you map something so ephemeral? IS not the earth but a reflection..."
  • [21:11:27] * Archelaus notices the other people
  • [21:11:37] * Isadora looks askance at the cart, then at the two strange men carrying on. "He doesn't look too dangerous."
  • [21:12:30] * Haikain opens his mouth to reply, and then sees the newcomers. Then sees Isadora. He closes his mouth hurredly and swallows.
  • [21:14:06] * Archelaus turns to the newcomers. "How do you stand on this issue then? What is best to map: the earth or the sky?"
  • [21:14:27] Isadora: "Well?" Isadora folds her arms and looks from the guard to the strangers--she's never met Archelaus, either--and back. She looks a little amused.
  • [21:14:39] Isadora: "Either, as long as I get my copy."
  • [21:16:15] Haikain: "Oh...well...I mean, I can make you a copy of...well..." He starts pulling folds of paper out of his pockets, unfolding them and then putting them back, mumbling place names..."Scorpion Ridge...Emer...Jungles of..." etc
  • [21:18:01] * Isadora runs her hand through her hair, suppressing a laugh. Haikain is possibly the least self-possessed person she's spoken to in days, and she likes that about him already. "Let's start over. I'm Isadora, and I'm supposed to be in charge here. Who are you two?"
  • [21:18:27] Archelaus: "Perhaps I should introduce myself, I am Archelaus the Astrologer and this," he gestures dismissively at Haikain,"is a catographer."
  • [21:18:36] * Haikain realizes that she wasn't serious, and tries to compose himself
  • [21:19:38] Isadora: "I don't remember you being part of my group. I suppose we're feeding you, despite that?" She looks more resigned than accusing.
  • [21:20:06] Haikain: "Ca Rtographer?, thank you very much!" He pulls himself up to his full...short...height, and makes a small, stiff bow. "I am Haikain aiJulali, of the Shiin isles. Traveler, scholar, and, indeed, cartographer."
  • [21:21:26] Holmes: The sun seems suddenly swallowed by the white wood as it does nightly.
  • [21:22:29] * Archelaus is looking up again, observing the emerging stars, and the exact place where the sun sinks below the horizon.
  • [21:24:14] * Haikain is looking at the dirt halfway between him and Isadora rather intently
  • [21:25:09] Isadora: "What are the two of you doing here? Just out for the scenery, or does every nation for a thousand miles have some interest in the lake?"
  • [21:25:58] Archelaus: "Lake? Oh, there's a lake! ..You can see the stars reflected in it."
  • [21:26:26] Haikain: "I am here of..." he makes the mistake of looking up, and starts hemming and hawing until he breaks eye contact again. "...my own accord, milady. I represent no-one."
  • [21:27:35] * Isadora shoots a questioning glance at the guard who brought her here, for lack of a better target.
  • [21:28:33] Archelaus: "I am interested in certain celestial phenomenon that can only be observed from this latitude."
  • [21:29:16] Haikain: "All I was asking for was some food and a place to sleep, milady, and then this...elder...ran into me. If you please, I will return to the surrounding forest, and cease being a source of trouble for you."
  • [21:30:05] Isadora: "Excellent. That almost made sense." Isadora nods approvingly to Archelaus. To Haikain, she says, "You're no more trouble than at least a dozen other vagrants I can think of around here. Consider yourself welcomed."
  • [21:30:43] * Okhfels comes walking past the small group, arm-in-arm with Elahra. He smiles and nods to Isadora as he goes by.
  • [21:31:18] Archelaus: "I hope I will not be much of a burden, my student and I, being men of the mind, not the body, have but simple needs"
  • [21:31:24] Archelaus: Tehu groans
  • [21:33:12] * Isadora bares her teeth in a smile at Okhfels and Elahra. She drags her attention back to Archelaus with some effort, and says to him, "How long will your studies keep you here?"
  • [21:36:37] Holmes: Above in the sky, the two mighty moons, Orhan and Charon seem to be approaching each other as they become visible, the darkness becoming more profound.
  • [21:37:23] * Okhfels stops, noticing the change for the first time. Elahra points up in the sky, and Okhfels looks up as well.
  • [21:37:28] Haikain: "Thank you, milady. And if you need anything...well...map-related, I'm sure I can, well, help out in some small way." Still staring at the dirt, he doesn't notice the change.
  • [21:37:30] * Archelaus pulls a large book from his bag and hurredly flips through the pages
  • [21:39:09] Archelaus: Sure
  • [21:39:16] Isadora: "Haikain, did you say? What about a map of this area?" She frowns at the sky, wondering what's going on.
  • [21:40:53] Haikain: "Well, as it turns out, its a very interesting thing...maps of this area tend not to be...well..." He looks up, and the notices everyone else looking up. He frowns and trails off.
  • [21:42:55] * Haikain turns and hurridly unties the rope binding the lid of his cart down. He starts sifting through the morass of papers contained within
  • [21:43:14] Holmes: Elahra looks up at the ongoing event in the sky and says, "Cay protect us."
  • [21:43:22] Holmes: She makes a sign to ward off demons.
  • [21:43:43] * Okhfels holds Elahra a little closer and tries to reassure her.
  • [21:45:55] Haikain: "Ah-ha!" He pulls out a scroll of some kind of tough paper and unrolls it. "I thought these symbols meant whales, but the contours line up almost perfectely..."
  • [21:49:14] Holmes: Elahra seems very comforted by Okhfels' strong arms.
  • [21:49:50] * Isadora avoids looking at the two.
  • [21:50:25] Haikain: "Elder? I know not these astrological symbols, could you help me with them?" He pulls out a quill from somewhere and is jotting on the edges of the parchment.
  • [21:52:10] * Archelaus yup
  • [21:53:20] Holmes: Jilliams seems confused, "What's going on? Why all the excitement? Is it about the moons? What does it mean?"
  • [21:53:38] Holmes: His guard stands near him, almost cowering.
  • [21:53:49] * Archelaus looks at the parchment, scrawls some quick calculations into the earth and gestures frntically over to the left.
  • [21:53:56] * Isadora shrugs at Jilliams. "I haven't the slightest idea, but everyone else seems excited about it."
  • [21:54:00] Archelaus: "Come on!"
  • [21:55:17] * Haikain laughs and follows Archelaus, tugging his chest of maps behind him.
  • [21:55:44] Holmes: Jilliams heads over that way, following the others curiously.
  • [21:56:44] * Archelaus charges along, his eyes never leaving the sky. Somehow Tehu manages to keep his master from falling flat on his face.
  • [21:57:28] * Isadora follows, doing her best to keep a dignified pace.
  • [21:59:01] Holmes: Elahra looks up into Okhfel's eyes, back to the moons, and back to Okhfels again. She seems tentative, but then speaks, "Am I yours here to protect?"
  • [21:59:10] Holmes: The question seems to be laden with meaning.
  • [21:59:51] Okhfels: "Yours? I will protect you, always."
  • [22:00:05] * Archelaus arrives at the challenge circle, then uses its border as the edge of a complex chart he cuts into the earth with amazing speed.
  • [22:00:16] Holmes: As they approach the circle, they hear chanting from the Rhiani tents. From out of that circle, near where the horses are tied up, come Dhazari looking skeptical at the approaching people.
  • [22:00:45] * Haikain raises his eyebrows and watches silently
  • [22:01:57] Holmes: "Just what are you doing in the Challenge Circle?" he asks a little more serious than his bemused tone might imply.
  • [22:03:56] Holmes: Dhazari stands with that particular Rhiani stance that indicates extreme pride.
  • [22:04:18] Isadora: "Something to do with bird solids, I think. Or the moons."
  • [22:05:02] Holmes: Dhazari squints at Isadora. Then he turns to Jilliams, "Do you give your word that this man is doing no harm?"
  • [22:05:19] * Archelaus doesn't seem to hear the question, but Tehu steps forward, looking resigned to his fate.
  • [22:06:24] Holmes: Jilliams looks to Isadora, asking if he should use his influence. More and more the Rhiani seem to trust Jilliams.
  • [22:06:38] Archelaus: "He's a scienti...a schola..a holy man.
  • [22:07:05] * Isadora frowns at Dhazari. "Why don't you ask him that, instead of making Jilliams responsible with his life?"
  • [22:07:37] Isadora: "Or let his helper stand for it. That's what they're for."
  • [22:07:56] Holmes: "Because I do not know this man. He's one of yours, no?" says Dhazari.
  • [22:08:14] Holmes: Indeed, Archelaus does look like the Laan of Kaitaine.
  • [22:08:34] Holmes: Though is accent places him from far to the north.
  • [22:09:33] Archelaus: "He almost never destroys anything," continues Tehu. "He just really likes to learn new things."
  • [22:09:41] Isadora: "One of mine? Goodness, no. We're accumulating tourists on our side as fast as you're accumulating refugees."
  • [22:11:13] Holmes: "Who are you, then, stranger?" says Dhazari. "And tell no falsehoods, or your life may be forfiet."
  • [22:11:58] Holmes: Isadora notes that Dhazari has taken a step here that she'd not seen before. For once a Rhiani had warned somebody about their predilections regarding honesty.
  • [22:11:59] Isadora: "He's serious about that, by the way. And I don't know you lot well enough to fight him over it."
  • [22:12:15] * Isadora notes it, but decides to ask Sebastian later.
  • [22:13:02] * Archelaus finally realizes that something is happening that requires his attention.
  • [22:14:09] Holmes: "Well," says Dhazari.
  • [22:14:15] * Haikain hangs back and takes notes quietely
  • [22:15:40] Archelaus: "I am Archelous of Danarchis, Mathematician of the Order of Abaris, and by Valris I must know the meaning of these moons."
  • [22:18:44] Holmes: Dhazari considers the statement for a moment, "Valris is the mother of Cay. I sense you speak truthfully. Go on."
  • [22:19:20] Holmes: Looking at Dhazari, it's obvious that he's decided to allow this half out of curiosity.
  • [22:21:38] Archelaus: Any observer with special Sight might notice that, the ritual already begun, little trails of light are running between Archelaus and the ground, and the symbols within the circle are filling with light as if some glowing molten ore were flowing through their channels.
  • [22:22:36] Holmes: Just in time, Archelaus finishs his preparations. The moons come together above.
  • [22:26:38] Holmes: A light from the Lake lances up towards Orhan, now covering Charon. The lake begins to boil furiously.
  • [22:27:14] Holmes: Archelaus is stricken bolt upright in his circle, light dancing all about him, and seeming to hold him into place.
  • [22:27:22] * Okhfels tells Elahra to run. He sends her back to her camp, while he runs up to the forge, where his big giant sword is kept.
  • [22:28:00] * Haikain falls onto his rump, stunnned
  • [22:29:12] * Isadora shields her eyes with one hand, trying to get a clear idea of what's going on. It seemed harmless a few minutes ago...
  • [22:29:51] Holmes: Motes of light circle Archelaus, forming patterns which his trained eyes translate. It's difficult for him to see what the stars say, but before the eclipse is over, he knows something important. Something of unbelievable power lies under that lake, some thinking thing that seems very strange to him. And somthing in the White Wood is pondering on it.
  • [22:31:03] * Okhfels runs over to the circle, to stand behind Isadora. He has his big sword out, and ready.
  • [22:32:03] Holmes: As the eclipse passes, the light from the lake fades, and it ceases boiling. Archelaus is released by the energy of his ritual.
  • [22:33:09] Holmes: Dhazari says, "So, what did you see old man?"
  • [22:34:02] Holmes: Isadora notes Okhfels standing behind her.
  • [22:34:24] Haikain: "Wow"
  • [22:34:52] * Isadora looks at Okhfels, then quickly back to Dhazari and Archelaus, then slowly back to Okhfels. "I think the show is over," she says to him.
  • [22:35:21] * Archelaus shakes himself and looks around. "I...do you have...I...water?"
  • [22:36:18] * Haikain hands Arch his half-full waterskin
  • [22:36:37] Archelaus: He looks weak and shaken, Tehu helps him out of the circle.
  • [22:38:05] * Okhfels nods to Isadora. He puts his sword away, but remains wary. He must REALLY distrust magic.
  • [22:38:26] Holmes: Dhazari still stands with an impatient posture, "Tell me you didn't scratch up our sacred circle for nothing. Those stars told you something. Now out with it."
  • [22:39:33] Isadora: The light show seems to have put Isadora temporarily off of her irritation towards Okhfels. She says to him, "What did you make of that? I know nothing about magic, and I don't know if the astrologer is even capable of giving a straight answer."
  • [22:39:55] Archelaus: "T He? lake...something is..."
  • [22:41:56] Archelaus: before he falls to the ground, Archelaus manages to gasp, "The forest, the forest is looking our way."
