Vajaar is a tropical land ranging from Savannahs to rainforests that exists in the eastern part of Uj - it covers most of the coast there. It's people are dedicated to following their god's drive to employ the products of their civilization to destroy others.

The Vajaari culture is divided according to Vahjnata law, which is roughly a caste-like social system. The groups or "natas" are:

  • Ajiiri - literally "people of the sky" or "people of the stars", Ajiiri are nobles and the highest nata.
  • Viziiri - literallly "people of the water" Viziiri are the wealthy and/or educated who are not nobles - magical advisors and minor priests.
  • Djahaiiri - literally "people of the tree", Djahaiiri are skilled tradesmen.
  • Shadjiiri - literally "people of the soil", Shadjiiri are serfs who work the land.
  • Shujak - literally "hollow things", Shujak are not considered to have proper souls. The Shujak are the slave nata. Foreigners are sometimes considered to be Sujak, but not always. Shujak are denied even the most basic of rights, and are considered to be essentially property.

Matters of Vahjnata are decided by the preists of Z'taar, who supposedly have the ability to accurately establish an individual's nata. However, in most cases this is not necessary - interbreeding between castes is uncommon, and rarely spoken of when it does occur.

Those foreigners not deemd by Z'taar to be Sujak are not classified into this system, but instead are considered to be "Zhanjiiri" - "people of the outside".

How To Speak Vajaari

Don't sweat the exact spellings too much, should you decide to use this stuff. It's just for flavour.

In general, use lots of Js, Vs and Is, and rolled Rs. Avoid harsher consonants unless the topic is one of distaste (see "Shujak" for an example).

  • Meyjii - a term of non-specific endearment
  • Nata - very roughly, means "caste".
  • Seyjji - means "leader of noble house" and/or "mayor". A Seyjii is by definition an Ajiiri.
  • Wahabbi - the supreme leader of Vajaar, apparently, although the exact nature of the ole is soemwhat undefined.
