{"id":4837,"date":"2013-04-21T02:52:37","date_gmt":"2013-04-21T02:52:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/random-average.com\/?p=4837"},"modified":"2013-04-21T02:53:28","modified_gmt":"2013-04-21T02:53:28","slug":"semi-eve-related-semi-book-related","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/2013\/04\/semi-eve-related-semi-book-related\/","title":{"rendered":"Semi Eve-related, semi book-related"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few weeks ago, I noticed a call for book reviewers over at themittani.com, a website that focuses mostly on sci-fi MMO gaming, especially Eve and Dust and things of that nature.<\/p>\n<p>They asked potential reviewers to write up a &#8216;test review&#8217; and submit a list of what we thought were good books, so they&#8217;d know if our choice of reviews was going to be terrible.<\/p>\n<p>So I wrote up a review of <em>Altered Carbon<\/em>, put together my desert-island list, and sent it off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Altered-Carbon-cropped-598x280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4839\" title=\"Altered-Carbon-cropped-598x280\" src=\"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Altered-Carbon-cropped-598x280.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Altered-Carbon-cropped-598x280.jpg 598w, http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Altered-Carbon-cropped-598x280-300x140.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few days later, this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>You own. Your sample\u00a0review\u00a0owned, the <em>Altered Carbon<\/em> trilogy is a favorite of mine, and you&#8217;re hired.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So I got all set up, the CSS for the book review template was wrestled into shape, and today my review &#8212; the same one I submitted for the application &#8212; is up. I&#8217;m glad I got to open with Altered Carbon; it&#8217;s one of my all-time favorites and a fantastic examination of what one&#8217;s &#8220;self&#8221; means in a era of body- and clone-swapping. Highly recommended, even if you don&#8217;t play a certain internet spaceship game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/themittani.com\/books\/altered-carbon\" target=\"_blank\">Check out the review<\/a>, if you like, and let me know what you think!
