{"id":709,"date":"2004-07-11T20:57:09","date_gmt":"2004-07-11T20:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/random-average.com\/?p=709"},"modified":"2004-07-11T20:57:09","modified_gmt":"2004-07-11T20:57:09","slug":"a-note-to-myself-for-future-reference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/a-note-to-myself-for-future-reference\/","title":{"rendered":"A note to myself for future reference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With regards to running <a title=\"Random Encounters -- Wookie opera and wookie news radio sounds exactly the same. \" href=\"http:\/\/faterpg.com\/\">FATE<\/a> (which I plan to use in the future for at least one if not two or three things):<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s possible, even likely, to get so used to hit-point-driven combat systems that it might seem as though a fight in FATE was not a &#8220;real challenge&#8221; if the characters come through it without any marks on their damage tracks.  The thing to remember is that FATE really has <u>two<\/u> damage tracks: the actual damage taken, and the pool of Aspects that one might &#8216;check off&#8217; during combat to improve results.<br \/>\nA game like d20 has one &#8216;ablative resource pool&#8217; &#8212; hit points &#8212; while FATE has two (and possibly even other, smaller pools for specific Extras or what-not), so while it is, of course, relevant to notice damage the characters took, it&#8217;s also important to notice how far they had to reach into their Aspects during a fight (or any other conflict, actually).<br \/>\nA lot of checked-off Aspects as a result of a conflict means just as much (if not more) reduced effectiveness during the remainder of a scenario than the damage track (and far more than a partial loss of hit points in d20, which has no mechanical effect at all).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With regards to running FATE (which I plan to use in the future for at least one if not two<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-709","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-game-design"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/709","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=709"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/709\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=709"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=709"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=709"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
