{"id":5737,"date":"2013-06-14T17:27:27","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T17:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/random-average.com\/?p=5737"},"modified":"2013-06-15T13:38:55","modified_gmt":"2013-06-15T13:38:55","slug":"fate-statting-out-supers-because-why-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/randomaverage.com\/index.php\/2013\/06\/fate-statting-out-supers-because-why-not\/","title":{"rendered":"FATE: Statting out Supers, because why not?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Inspired by Ryan&#8217;s work on representing <a href=\"http:\/\/ryanmdanks.com\/?p=202\" target=\"_blank\">the Avengers<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ryanmdanks.com\/?p=233\" target=\"_blank\">the JLA<\/a> in Fate, and because I&#8217;m getting my head around this to run a DC Universe &#8220;Brainiac Invasion&#8221; game, I&#8217;ve been fiddling around with statting out various established characters in Fate Core and Fate Accelerated. I figured I&#8217;d share some of them here.<\/p>\n<p><b>Black Widow<a href=\"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/black-widow.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5741 alignright\" alt=\"black widow\" src=\"http:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/black-widow.png\" width=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/black-widow.png 471w, https:\/\/randomaverage.com\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/black-widow-300x256.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 471px) 100vw, 471px\" \/><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>This version of Ms. Romanov is a bit of a mix between the classic comic book leader of the Avengers and the Black Widow we see in recent movies (who gives up the swingline\/stinger bracelets for a glock). I think it&#8217;s a pretty good write-up, one of the easier ones I did, and the nice thing is that with a different set of aspects, this basic character skillset + stunts ports remarkably well to the Bat Family in Gotham.<\/p>\n<p><em>Aspects<\/em><br \/>\nHigh Concept:\u00a0<em><strong>Russian Superspy<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nTrouble:\u00a0<em><strong>Dangerous Liasons<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Natural Leader<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Red Room Conditioning<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>I&#8217;ve got red on my ledger&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Skills<\/em><br \/>\nGreat (+4) Stealth<br \/>\nGood (+3) Athletics, Shoot<br \/>\nFair (+2) Fight, Investigate, Deceive<br \/>\nAverage (+1) Burglary,\u00a0Notice, Drive, Will<\/p>\n<p><em>Stunts<\/em><br \/>\n<b>Swingline.\u00a0<\/b>You move two zones for free in a conflict without rolling,\u00a0instead of one, provided there are no situation aspects restricting\u00a0movement.<br \/>\n<b>Deadly Romance.<\/b>\u00a0Get a +2 to Deceive when seducing a target.<br \/>\n<b>Flawless Interrogator.<\/b>\u00a0Get a +2 to Investigate when questioning someone.<br \/>\n<strong>(Optional) Widow&#8217;s Sting.<\/strong>\u00a0Once per combat scene, spend a Fate point to force your target to take a Consequence rather than using Stress from a ranged attack.<\/p>\n<p>Refresh: 3 (or 2)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Fate Accelerated Edition<\/strong><br \/>\nReplace Skills and Stunts With:<\/p>\n<p><em>Approaches<\/em><br \/>\nGood (+3)\u00a0Sneaky<br \/>\nFair (+2) Clever, Quick<br \/>\nAverage (+1) Forceful, Careful<br \/>\nMediocre (+0) Flashy<\/p>\n<p><em>Stunts<\/em><br \/>\nBecause of my Red Room Conditioning, I get a +2 to Sneakily Attack in melee range.<br \/>\n[Two others as you like, or rework some from Fate Core.]<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The important thing to remember about working out supers in Fate is that, as Ryan mentioned in his <a href=\"http:\/\/ryanmdanks.com\/?p=165\" target=\"_blank\">exploration of representing Iron Man&#8217;s suit<\/a>, Aspects are always true, even if they aren&#8217;t currently being invoked. Black Widow is always a superspy, with the abilities and so forth that the super-soldier serum convey. Always. She gets to use her bracers to shoot stuff even when she&#8217;s not invoking her stunt, and in the same vein, she can use her swingline for stuff that isn&#8217;t just about moving quickly from zone to zone in combat. If your\u00a0opponent was already going to take a severe consequence, he must\u00a0either take a severe consequence and a second consequence or be taken\u00a0out.<br \/>\n<b>Claws.<\/b>\u00a0Weapon:2<br \/>\n<b>Regeneration. <\/b>Spend a Fate Point to downstep a Mild or Moderate consequence.<br \/>\n<strong>Admantium Skeleton.<\/strong> Armor:2<br \/>\n<strong>Animal Senses.<\/strong>\u00a0+2 Notice when scent is a Factor.<\/p>\n<p>Refresh: 1 (In story terms Wolverine needs to have things go against him for awhile before he really gets rolling.)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Fate Accelerated Edition<\/strong><br \/>\nReplace Skills and Stunts With:<\/p>\n<p><em>Approaches<\/em><br \/>\nGood (+3)\u00a0Quick<br \/>\nFair (+2) Forceful, Flashy<br \/>\nAverage (+1) Sneaky, Clever<br \/>\nMediocre (+0) Careful<\/p>\n<p><em>Stunts<\/em><br \/>\nBecause I regenerate, once per session I can shift a consequence down a notch from Moderate to Mild, or Mild to gone.<br \/>\nBecause of my Admantium Skeleton, I get +2 to Forcefully Defend vs physical attacks.<br \/>\nBecause I am a Feral Mutant, I get a +2 to Cleverly overcome obstacles where my senses are a factor.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Finally, remember that Aspects are always true: Wolverine regenerates, whether he spends a fate point on it or not, so all he needs is a short rest after a conflict for his Consequences to shift to their &#8216;on the mend&#8217; versions.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and that&#8217;s it for now.
