This page has listings of special materials in Shadow World. These ratings should be considered typical, but will vary widely depending on workmanship (both higher or lower). Also, these lists are by no means exhaustive.

Weapon Metals

Generally speaking, metals are rare in Shadow World. Most of these are even rarer than the common iron which weapons are typically made from, and their distribution tends to be very limited. Some metals on this list were forged only by cultures that no longer exist, and the means to construct such has been lost.

Other Metals

Again, most of these are rare to extremely rare, and for some the ability to work these substances no longer exists anywhere. Typically if anyone knows how, it's the Loari Elves.

  • Arinyark: A metallic element which absorbs and retains raw Essence radiations. Absorb Magic 5W
  • Electrium: This alloy is made by mixing gold, silver, and iron at high temperatures while flooding the molten metals with magic. Accept Enchantment 5W
  • Essicrysta: Essicrysta is a clear, crystalline substance that glows faintly and is always warm to the touch. Store Magic 5W3
  • Eog, Black: Can inhibit or even nullify all non-Dark Essence. Inhibit Essence 5W3
  • Eog, White: Can limit the powers of Dark Essence. Inhibit Dark Essence 5W3

  • Xenium: Blue-silver in hue, this alloy is created from titanium, arinyark and other more dangerous materials, which together nullify the force of gravity. Resist Gravity 10W2

Other Minerals

Woods

  • Dir Tree: [Cool Temperate -Cold/Seasonal] The black wood of Dir is among the most prized of hardwoods, being similar to ebony. Pretty 17, Strong 5W, Fine Bow 15W
  • Hoen Tree: [Temperate Cool Temperate/Seasonal Wet & Dry] This tree has an overall form similar to the oak, but with large three-lobed leaves which have a light golden color in autumn. The bark of the tree is even lighter than the silver birch, and the wood itself is naturally a pale yellow-gold color which makes it quite valuable. Pretty 17, Fine Bow 5W
  • Irnwood: [Hot/Semiarid/Underground: Special] Darker than shadow, harder than marble. Hard 15W2, Easy to Enchant 10W.
  • Mahogany: [Tropical Temperate/Rainy Humid] A tropical evergreen the mahogany is prized for its hard, redbrown wood. Hard 17
  • Teak: [Tropical Temperate/Rainy Humid] A tall rainforest evergreen, the teak tree yields a yellowishbrown wood. Hard 5W2

*Note that this entry is for "common" Laen, and colored Laen's tend to be very enchantable in specific ways. For example red Laen has Easy to add Fire Enchantments 15W. A typical flaming Laen sword would probably have Flaming 20W.
