Zelana is woken by Tinder and witnesses a number of very very large Forest Vengeance Spirits heading in a Very Specific Direction (toward Hugo's camp in the north of the Baron. Zelana uses her bond with her Wolf Spirit and takes on that form to run and warn him.

Eilwen goes to find Maslin, and in her travels, sees that many of the sacrificial altars hidden around the Barony for the peasant rituals on the Night of Bitter Scales are currently CRAWLING with the local snakes of the region. Not good.

Back at the church in Wells, Guilbert staggers out of Josette's rooms, staggers to horse, staggers home, and collapses.

Emilie forces Guy to unhangover her in the morning, and goes outside to exercise. Josette, upon arriving at the castle quite early, sees her as she leaves, and, distraught, comes to her for advice. Seems as though she slept with Guilbert last night and Guilbert acts like... nothing happened.

Yep... Josette has done something Zelana would never do -- Guilbert.

Emilie is unsympathetic to the girl's plight, explaining that the reason G is acting that way is probably just because he was so drunk he didn't even recognize her last night.

Josette storms away. Emillie lets her go. She comes back. Emilie is not pleased.

GM: "She's coming back."
Emilie: "AW C'MON!"

Emillie's heart softens: "I could help her if she were a horse..."

Josette pours out her heart on the jagged rocks of Emillie's compassion.
Emilie (blows her objective, (marg. failure)) fails to comfort or counsel Josette.

Noella sends for Jacques for a breakfast meeting and lays it on the line for him -- she knows that he was getting chastely frisky with Aimee, her daughter, and wants that to STOP. NOW.

(Contest: simple -- Jacques can't quite pull it off.)

Jacques turns things around a bit and points out that he is the only person at this moment who has the power to 'make' a viable baron out of any of Eustef's sons... as the heir has to be part of the Order of St. Gerlant, which means sponsorship by a current Orderly, which means Jacques. Jacques is looking for Allies and some respect.

He manages to garner some credibility and an alliance with Noella.

Emilie approaches Guilbert about what went on the night before. Guilbert assumes he made a pass at Emilie, which is 'only understandable'. Emilie makes REALLY SURE he knows that that isn't what happened, but is not giving Guilbert anything - Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How... only that it was BIG SCREWUP that HE WILL HAVE TO FIX.

Eilwen meets with Maslin, fills him in, and is sent to assist Hugo and to get Hugo safe.

Zelana catches up with Hugo and gets him and his men the hell out of the way as the Forest Spirits are attacking. They flee the area with the spirits coming after them.

Jacques talks with Ratier, who wants Hugo named the heir (and Josette in his bed) because Guilbert is a useless ponce. Ratier could have some great influence in the area with a new Baron... might work out well for Jacques... Jacques makes another alliance (and picks up "Machiavellian").
