Starlight Class Courier/Yacht

Big ships: too costly to maintain and too damn easy to hit. A small ship with fast drives, a few big guns, and a couple hidden bays, maybe a Starlight class -- something you could really make some credit with if you weren't afraid to take a few chances...

Subpro Corporation is a large starship manufacturer based in the Inner Rim. While its designs (including the Z-95 Headhunter) are of good quality, its location far from the Core Worlds has virtually assured the company 'second-class' status in the eyes of most military and civilian purchasers. However, the company's designs are frequently 'undiscovered gems' which offer excellent performance at a competitive price, and while its freighter sales lag behind those of the CEC, Subpro's designs are often favored by the notoriously independent captains who fly the star lanes in the galaxy's backwaters.

The Starlight (something of a 'signature' ship for Subpro), is one of many courier ships used throughout known space, and is a reliable vessel, and always in demand with smugglers who move small, high-profit loads like drugs, urithium, precious gems, and people. The Starlight class has also become very popular as a less-expensive pleasure yacht for the rich and as private transport for the heads of interstellar corporations.

Viscount Class Freighter

There is a story about the first Viscount class ship ever commissioned. The story tells of a struggling merchant who sold everything she had to build the ship of her dreams. Upon its completion, she announced that she was setting out in search of legendary Mount Savidius, and was then never seen nor heard from again. Many believe that the first ship of a class dedicated to such a noble purpose could not help but bring luck to all ships of that class, as well as to their owners. Others believe she was an amazing con-artist to announce to her creditors that she was skipping town and then succeed.

The Viscount-class was designed to search out new markets and to establish trade routes. Its efficient, simple and reliable hull design was soon copied by many ship builders, and has since become a mainstay for independent traders, prospectors and explorers. Many of these vessels have fallen into the hands of smugglers and pirates. (Most notably the pirate captains Stark and Quinn, who operated in and out of the Rim for more than 40 years.)

As a cargo ship, the Viscount can't stack up to bulk freighters, but for smaller payloads it remains a solid performer. The Viscount was originally intended to maximize its cargo capabilities, but redesigners and retrofitters have put a greater emphasis on its passenger carrying capabilities and equipping it with more weapons. The Vi'tawn gi class has established Itself firmly in just about all frontier areas as a cargo and passenger transport, making It one of the most economical and reliable ships currently produced.

Quantum Class Scout/Explorer

The Quantum class scout/explorer is a newcomer compared to other small freighters In use. The Quantum was originally commissioned as a long range scout, explorer and support ship by the Republic. (Its profile does not exactly match that of the average small freighter, but rather that of a troop carrying ship). When the first few hundred of these ships were retired, they were auctioned off, without most of their high-end hardware, of course. These small ships are ideal for

"The discriminating buyer who is seeking something more than just a cargo hauler...".

The release of the Quantum into the general space lanes was criticized vehemently by members of the Senate and compared to setting loose a piranha in a minnow pond. The Navy responded that it was necessary to auction off the older ships to pay for the general maintenance of the fleet. In all, about 1200 Quantum-class transports have been auctioned off, with more than just a few finding their into the Rim or the Rebellion forces, most likely being put to the purpose they were originally designed for.

Kurr'zek Jar Class Freighter/Frigate

The Kurr'zek Jar (ker-sec-jar) class vessel is a typical Swarr design, combining the elements of freighter and warship. The widespread use of this ship by so many of the Swarr clans suggests that when the need arises, it is quickly converted from peaceful clan trader into a clan warship.

Today, the commercial cargo version of the Kurr'zek Jar Is being built mainly in Mon Calmari space, due to their long-standing economic and peace agreements with the Swarr. The backlog for having one of these ships built to non-Swarr specifications is about five years but the original version can be found if you know where to look. Suspicion and fear accompany the Kurr'zek Jar class freighter in every port they put into. Its reputation is known throughout most of known space. Many Tri-Dee dramas have been made about bloodthirsty pirates raiding out of the Rim in Kurr'zek Jar starships.

Hanto Class Freighter/Frigate

The Hanto class freighter is built on long established designs of many medium sized freighters that have worked the space lanes before, during, and after the Clone Wars. The Hanto was instrumental in the first years of that war after much of the Republic fleet was damaged or destroyed at the engagement at Sandaron by a Clone fleet, thanks to the large number of Hanto class ships in service that were easily converted for military use.

Regardless of species design, the medium sized freighter is the mainstay of medium cargo transports throughout known space. Without ships like the Hanto class, the space lanes would be virtually empty rather than as busy and profitable as they are. The economies of hundreds of worlds depend on the commerce that ships like the Hanto provide, moving billions of tons of cargo each year. These ships are the easiest to finance, as well as the easiest to find. It is said that these ships have proven to be so durable that there are still a few Hanto class vessels in service that date back to the days of the old Clone Wars runs.

Na'vakk Tuu Class Freighter/Passenger Liner

The Na'vakk Tuu (na-vacc'-to) class vessel is built along classical Mon Calmari lines and is large, elaborate and opulent. The Na'vakk Tuu class freighter/liner has become one of the most popular ships of its type. Both the freighter and the liner version are richly appointed and has become a standard representing the best there is in a first-class freighter or passenger liner. Like other large ships of its type, it is expensive to maintain.

Kkif'phtt Class Bulk Freighter

The Kkif'phtt class bulk freighter Is the largest vessel the Mon Calmari produce. The Kkif'phtt represents a new era in starship design, unlike other vessels of this type, the freighter is equipped with some of the most sophisticated hardware available. Even though the initial purchase price is rather high, long term savings are realized in lower operating costs resulting in higher profit margins. This ship may be the trend of future bulk freighters, but only time will tell.
