A Practice defines specific, advanced methods of ecstatic worship within a larger Tradition. Membership in a specific Practice (often in multiple Practices) within a Tradition is a defining trait of a Practitioner and an obvious requirement on the road to becoming a Shaman. Joining a practice is the first step beyond being a basic spiritist member of an Animist tradition.

There are often several kinds of practices within a tradition. A tradition may include some or all of the practices listed below:

  • Core Practices -- all practitioners follow these practices, at minimum.
  • Shamanic Practices -- a practice used to awaken a Shaman's Fetch
  • Helper Practices -- non-exclusive, independant, and optional practices within a Tradition
  • Enemy Practices -- used to teach methods to drive off enemy spirits
  • Independent Practices -- seperate from the main Traditions.

Examples of various types of Practices can be found in the HQ book:

  • Hunting Practice: p 146 (Waha)
  • Tribal Protection Practice p 145 (Eiritha)
  • Ancestors Practice p 145 (Daka Fal)
  • Calvary Soldier/Warrior Practice p 145 (Jardan) or p 144 (Yu Kargzant)
  • Entertainer Practice p 143 (Folorene)
  • Healer Practice p 142 (La-Ungariant) or p 144 (Lereen)
  • Hunter Practice p 144 (Dastal or Yu-Kargzant)
