Laughing Idols is the animist Tradition of those who live alongside the great river whose name it bears. Traditionally, the spirits of the Laughing Idols River are friends of the Nubari and Tam-hi, but many other peoples (notable Katanga) adopt this tradition).

The nubari and the river share mutual health. Laughing Idols still shares its riches with any that will show it proper respect. The Nubari worship it in all things; fishermen harvest its children as they seek her blessing; a new bridge is a major chance for offence; irrigation ditches mean ceremonies of respect.
