A few quick notes on disallowed or changed occupatiosn from the core HQ book:

  1. Spellcasters: at this point, the only magical disciplines in Malatra appear to be
  2. As a general rule, I removed or replaced any abilities within the occupations that seemed too sophisticated or cultured.
  3. Everyone has "Fear meat-eating garuda" at 17 :) (Except for Plant-men, who get it for plant-eaters.)
  4. In almost any case, if the Occupation has Ride, swap it out for something else like "Hike Long Distances"

NOT AVAILABLE

  • Cavalry Soldier -- though eventually I'll probably write up some advanced requirements (like the Shaman) for being a Garuda Rider.
  • Farmer
  • Foot Soldier; this kind of organized warfare doesn't exist in Malatra
  • Sailor; tribes that live on a lake or river already have boating.

VERY RARE

  • Nomad; arguable only for nubari plains-tribes; also, herd beasts are very rare.
  • Petty Noble; suitable for spiritist leaders of a tribe who focus more on politics than nurturing; otherwise, rare. Swap out ride.

Common:

Entertainer

Obviously, focus on the appropriate entertainment abilities.

Healer

No changes. Very appropriate for certain types of Spiritists.

Hunter

Pick a more specific type of survival than 'wilderness' that you don't already have from your species. Add boast.

Merchant

Pack animals tend to be more rare in Malatra, so some skill swapping might be appropriate there; perhaps add either an craft skill of some kind or a good relationship with your main supplier.

Scholar

Appropriate for witch-doctors, focusing on oral traditions and artifacts of the Ancients. See also: the Blue Hand?.

Thief (aka: Kwaku)

First, swap out 'word on the street' with 'ear to the ground', and 'Urban Survival' with one more appropriate. Add "Archery" to the list of possible combat skills to take. Add "Boast". Breaking down into the three specialities:

  • Burglar (very good for the more roguish spins on hunter-types)
  • Mugger (more of a warrior/ambusher spin)
  • Pickpocket (AKA: Prankster)

Warrior

"Unit style mass combat" is questionable. Drop Ride. Add "Boast".
