Spirits of the Animism Traditions are of varying strength and role in the hierarchy:
- Great Spirits have abilities in the 10w8 to 10w12 range. They are worshiped by those in the core Practice? of the Tradition - which is everyone who ascribes to the tradition per se.
- Majestic Spirits have abilities in the 10w5 to 10w7 range. Each is the central figure of worship for a Practice.
- Practice Spirits have abilities in the 10 to 10w2 range (and some up to as high as 10W5). These are the spirits associated with a particular Practice, meaning that they are somehow associated with the Majestic Spirit of the Practice.
- Simple Spirits have abilities in the 6 to 5w range. These are usually associated with the Core Practice?, and are what Tradition Charms are created from.
There are two other designations of spirits:
- Helper Spirits are spirits that belong to a tradition as a whole, but not to any particular practice. These are usually about the size of practice spirits (above), but can be bound by any practitioner of any of the Practicees of the Tradition.
- Independent spirits can be of practically any size, and are not related to any tradition. They can be bound by any practitioner of any tradition that the spirit in question does not find inimical.
When binding spirits, Practitioners and Shamans face a default resistance, based on the disposition of the spirit being bound:
- Friendly Spirits: Resistance = 14
- Neutral Spirits: Resistance = Rating of the exploited ability
- Hostile Spirits: Resistance = Rating of the spirit's highest ability
Example elemental spirits can be found on p 150 of the HQ book.
