A being made entirely from spiritus Dei; a motive force behind reality. Imperators are made of pure Uncaused Cause. This means that they *are* the ultimate explanation of the Estates that comprise their souls.

Imperators of the Light and Dark control and embody Earth-specific Estates. Normally, humanity creates these Estates. True Gods also embody Earth-specific Estates. Normally, these Estates have little to do with humanity.

There are "equivalent" Imperators on other worlds -- controlling the Estates specific to those worlds.

Angels, Fallen Angels, Aarons Serpents, and the Wild control and embody Estate|s that exist everywhere on the World Ash.

Where do these Estates come from?

1. New Concepts. When humans first created the idea of medicine, it demanded a new Estate. This usually creates an Imperator of the Light or Dark.
2. Conceptual Division. Sometimes, a sub-Estate is "ripe" for fissioning off of an old Estate.
3. Conceptual Unlocking. Perception only exists on Earth, but this does not mean that inhabitants of every other world stumble around blind. Rather, perception on those worlds is an indivisible part of life's interaction with the world. You can't just affect what someone perceives -- you have to affect the thing that person perceives. In other words, the "unlocking" of Perception, on Earth, created the idea of illusion.
4. When a Wild Imperator enters the Ash, it brings its Estates with it.

Normally, Imperators appear in one of two ways:

• A new Estate appears, triggering the division and unlocking of several other Estates "ripe" for it, creating an Imperator
• A bunch of Estates are *so* close to division or unlocking that the metaphysical "pressure" creates a new Imperator.

Some concepts that appear awfully primal have actually divided off of or unlocked from earlier concepts. Sight might have divided off of the Senses. Desire might have unlocked from Need. And so forth. The absolute baselines for the universe are angelic and serpentine Estates, but later allegiances *can* control some primal ideas.
