Estate Description: Apathy is a lack of feeling - literally a lack of pathos. This is the estate of indifference. The early Catholic Church felt that Apathy was a virtue because it was an expression of indifference to material temptations. The Stoics also considered apathy a virtue because a lack of pathos was a necessary condition for the ascent of Reason.

In modern times, apathy is seen with less forgiving eyes.
