Stuart Corvix, the Pawn of Agonyclites
Design: Closed purple six-petalled larch flower with sword-like leaves (faith, madness, audacity) twined around an open, yellow urn-like alyssym with thorns and leaves in an X shape (power, excellence/vanity, glory) on a virulent poison-green circle, lightly spattered with translucent darkness. Virtue: Arrogance Affiliation: Hell Limits: None Restrictions: Cigarette Bond, Respectful of the Properly Humble, Must Grant a Single Boon to Any Mortal That Asks, Flashbacks Wounds: 3 Deadly, 3 Serious, 3 Surface Stuart was a simple UNIX system administrator with an unusual hobby: Conspiracy theory. However, for a mortal, he was unusually good at the game. Through a combination of skill and dumb luck, he deduced the existance of something like the Nobilis, which he called the Hidden Movers. However, in his arrogance, he thought he could play them against each other. This earned him attention and caused him to be bound as a Noble, but at a cost. His arrogance and hubris was reflected in his very soul, giving him amazing mortal powers, but very little control over his Estate. In addition, the ritual that made him Noble bound him to show respect to mortals who truely did not fall under his Estate (the humble), not to mention bound him to grant one and only one boon to any mortal that asks, a fact which he takes great pains to conceal, particularly from the mortals he deals with. If that were not enough, he is haunted by flashbacks from the life of the Noble who previously held his Estate, a terribly humble man who followed the Code of Heaven. Stuart's Estate covers anyone who shows undue pride and/or hubris in their practice of religion or spirituality. (Originally the an agonyclite was a member of a heretical sect that stood rather than kneeled while praying. Stuart's Estate is a little more broad that that.) He has founded an organization called The New Agonyclites, the (seemingly innocuous) core belief of which is that every action, everything one does, should be a silent prayer, that like the Agonyclites of old, religion should be engaged while "standing up". Faith should inform every moment of one's life. That is, faith isn't a passive thing -- it's a matter for action. This organization is Stuart's main tool on Earth. The New Agonyclites are hip-deep in whatever they believe in, and always in motion. They believe that faith is a personal thing, and that no one has the right to critique another person's Faith. All religous beliefs are, in some sense, true. However, whatever your personal Truths are, you MUST live them. If you believe abortion is wrong, you must do all you can, within your concience, to stop it. If you consider yourself a feminist, you must fight sexism in the worst corners of the world, in so much as you are able. New Agonyclites also vow to aid any person of Faith, especially New Agonyclites, whenever asked, within the limits of an individual's sense of ethics, which is pretty flexible in the case of most New Agonyclites. This means a New Agonyclite is often very busy -- but can call on other New Agonyclites when in need. Similarly, New Agonyclites are encouraged to join religious organizations that espouse similar beliefs to one's own personal Truths with no concern for demoninational boundaries. If a New Agonyclite believes the death penalty is wrong, he might try to join the Catholics Against Capitol Punishment as well as the Society of Friends Committee to Abolish the Death Penalty. Most importantly for the relationship to Stuart's Estate, however, the New Agonyclites have infiltrated all sorts of religious organizations, and are in a position to manipulate things using that fact. Also, most New Agonyclites that think it's okay to lie, steal, and kill in order to accomplish their goals, and are aided by even the more peaceful members of the group. In this way, Stuart manages to manipulate both the liberal and conservative wings of virtually every religion on Earth. Stuart's main proxy in the New Agonyclites is his ex-wife, Dava Hildebran. A devout Mormon, she divorced him when he strayed from the Mormon faith in his pursuit of the Hidden Movers. Dava's belief system is surprisingly very similar to the one espoused by the New Agonyclites, albiet with a very Mormon spin. She was recruited into the organization, and was surprised to find Stuart at its head. Given their history, he both loves and hates her, so it was natural that he made her his Anchor. |
