Blasio and Simon are two young noblemen from the lands to the east of Petrana. Having no wealth or lands of their own to serve as a power base, they came to Petrana and used their titles as a bargaining point to obtain financially secure marriages with members of the wealthier guild families. Their flagrant opportunism has aroused the hatred of some of the established aristocracy, particularly the young nobility led by Paul le Maar.
