Churches follow rituals laid down in scripture to lead worship that channels veneration to the higher Power. The Liturgist leads the congregation in this worship. The blessings a liturgist invokes will often be the only magic the lay Worshiper encounters in their lifetime.
Requirements
To 'upgrade' from a Worshiper to Liturgist (or to begin play as a Liturgist), the player must spend 3 hero points (or a combination of HP and freebie slots during character creation) to gain:
- Use [Scripture] -- used to invoke Blessings, Special Blessings, and Curses during worship
- Venerate [God] -- Both the means of the Liturgist to channel veneration of the congregation to the God, as well as a means of detecting other magical and otherworldly influences in the area.
- Leader of [Congregation]
- Doctrine of [Church]
Magic Gained
- Scriptures -- a Liturgist can invoke Blessings on the congregation at regular ceremonies that act as passive augments to one task. They can also invoke Curses on the enemies of the congration during a ceremony, but never both at the same time.
- Characters who begin play as Liturgists gain all of the Church's Scriptures at 17. (p.18)
- Characters who become Liturgists later in play gain one of the Church's Scripture for 'free' at a rating of 13.
- Orderlies are not technically required to Concentrate their magic, however many faiths make it a requirement.
- Concentrating allows Common Magic Spells to be used Actively, though sometimes the religion may frown on the use of some common magic spells.
Virtues -- the Liturgist can select any of the traits seen as 'good' or commonly found within their religion.
