The Magellenic Cloud was the most beautiful thing in the sky. The Angels declared it so. That it was naturally beautiful and required no enhancement from them increased its value a thousandfold.

The Cloud was so beautiful that mere mortals could not even begin to perceive it. Earth provided the best view of the phenomenon which was one of the very few reasons for an Angel to set foot there. The fact that the inhabitants of Earth were denied this truly stunning spectacle was so poignant that the more sympathetic celestials wept at the thought.

By the end of 1835 the sky would be changed forever.

There was an attempt on the life of the United States President on January 30th. This was the beginning of an attack on Authority and Earth's enChancelled Angels took it personally. The fact that it happened in the Capitol building itself made it even worse. This "Jackson" was only a mortal but he was still superior to the unemployed house-painter who tried to shoot him.

The originator of the rite was never discovered but it set off a complex series of nettlings, preservations and destructions which lasted nearly the entire prosaic year. The Darklord Xinqoin? took advantage of the chaos engendered by the web of conflicts to get one up on his ancient rival Yahariel?, the Keeper of the Cloud. Xinqoin manipulated things so that Yahariel had to choose between the Cloud and an enclave of Earthbound mortals of whom he had become fond. The Angel was eventually forced to enChancel which gave the Darklord the opportunity to place the tiniest blemish on the Cloud. In his frustration Yahariel tore the Cloud asunder ripping the very heart from it.

The Greater and Lesser Clouds, as the remains became known, could reach only the merest fraction of their former beauty. Even mortals were able to perceive the barest glimpse of it. The light from the "new" clouds shone into the spirit world and lit the way for new expansions? and colonies.

Finally, on October 23rd, the Power of Legacy literally created a truce in the name of Adlai Ewing Stevenson (Grandfather of Adlai himself). Legacy, acting on behalf of his Imperator, gathered the leaders of the major factions together and inserted aspects favorable to each of them in the Stevenson family. The birth of Adlai the Elder ended the conflict and garnered a great deal of prestige and favors for Legacy's Familia. But the damage to the Cloud had already been done and not even the Rollback could fix it.
