The Akashic Memory is Jung's Collective Unconscious, combined with the psychic residue of all living things. A master of the art of memory can peer into your mind and discover who you really are. She can "download" skills from the Akashic Memory--the artistic techniques of the world's greatest painter, or the tactical thinking of a long-dead general. To an Akashic adept, the past is an open book.
In the Diamond Throne setting, the Akashic Memory was discovered by the Verrik of the Vnax culture many thousands of years ago. The land of Zalavat, located in the Vnaxian ruins, has a particularly rich "psychic soil" which makes these skills a little more common than elsewhere. Yet over the millennia many of these secrets spread to the outside world, particularly amid pre-literate cultures in the Waste Lands and the lands that would become part of the Diamond Realm.
In civilized lands like the Diamond Realm and Zalavat there are special guilds for Akashic adepts to train their skills, bargain with outsiders, and ensure "quality control" among the membership. By selecting these Secrets, you're saying that your character received, or still receives, guild training, and probably has spent a fair amount of time in the Diamond Realm or Zalavat.
Conversion Notes
In the Arcana Unearthed rules, only the Akashic class can use these abilities--and most of them can be translated pretty well into Secrets in the Solar system.
Powers of the Akashic Memory
In general the Akashic Memory relies upon living memory: the people still around now. Reaching further back into the past requires the Secret of Time Immemorial.
I may end up adjusting the costs for these Secrets.
Crystal Palace of Recollection
The Akashic has a perfect memory of everything she has personally experienced. If anyone tries to tamper with her private memories she gets 2 bonus dice to Resist.
Secret of Forgotten Lore
Everything around you tells a story if you can only piece together its meaning. Use the Story-tell ability to discern facts about a nearby person, place or thing. The Storyguide should give you a number of facts equal to your Success Level. Cost - 2 Reason.
Secret of the Impersonator
Staying in character is partially a matter of confirming others' expectations. By examining the memories of on-lookers, you gain a bonus dice your Deceit skill for the purpose of disguise or impersonation. Cost - None.
Secret of the Invisible Archive
Through deep concentration you can explore the memories of a society and gain insight into a task. Make a Pray skill check; the Success Levels become bonus dice for the upcoming check. Cost - 2 Vigor.
Secret of the Memory Thief
You can obliterate another person's memory of a specific event, or edit it to your choosing. This is a Sway check vs. the target's Resist ability. Prerequsite - Secret of the Mind Reader. Cost - 2 Instinct.
Secret of the Mind Reader
No one can hide their thoughts from you. A Discern Truth check lets you peer into someone's mind though they can make a Resist check to stop you. Cost - 2 Reason.
Secret of the Psychic Tracker
Instead of tracking someone by looking for footprints or broken twigs, you hunt for recent memories and psychic impressions. You may use your Streetwise skill to follow the quarry's memories of where he's been. Cost - 1 Reason
Secret of the Roleplayer
By immersing yourself in memories of another you effectively take on that person's knowledge and personality for one hour. In order to do this, you must make a Great (SL 3?) Counsel check. Then you must beat this result with a Resist check, or the other personality will dominate for that hour. If you can pull it off, it's a great way to know what that pesky wizard 500 miles away is plotting. Note that the target of your impersonation doesn't necessarily know you're doing it. Prerequisite - Secret of the Mind Reader. Cost - 3 Reason
The Secret Sharer
For one hour you can imitate any Open or Cultural Secret that has no pool cost. This does not include Species Secrets or any Secret relating to magic. Cost - 3 Instinct.
Secret of Time Immemorial
Normally Akashic techniques only apply to living memory. With this secret you can probe further into the past. Cost - 1 from the relevant pool per century.
