Church Orders tend to focus their worship more specifically than communal worshipers -- they primarily venerate one Saint (but not to the exclusion of all others). Members of the Order (called Orderlies) and can learn to use the Spells of that Order as magical abilities, either augmenting their mundane skills or as Active Magic.
Most orders are quite... results-oriented; they provide magic that is immediately useful to the typical members of the Order. (The downside being that Orderly magic requires a third-party to 'recharge'.)
Requirements
To 'upgrade' from a Worshiper to Orderly (or to begin play as an Orderly), the player must spend 3 hero points (or a combination of HP and freebie slots during character creation) to gain:
- Know [Saint] -- defaults to level of "Worship [God]" (which must already be possessed)
- Member of [Order] -- Shows how much time the hero spends on his order and members.
- Rule of [Saint] -- provides knowledge of the order's practices.
- Know [Saint] -- used for Piety rolls if necessary. Seperate skill from "Worship [God]"
- Orderlies have all the benefits of a normal Worshiper, and can also use their Piety to call on their patron saint with a higher chance of success.
Magic Gained
- Saintly Blessings -- an order's Liturgist invokes Blessings on the order at regular ceremonies that act as passive augments to one task. These blessing also reconsecrates (recharges) the Orderly's Talismans.
- Characters who begin play as Orderlies gain all of the Spells of their Order's Formulary at 17. (p.18)
- Characters who become Orderlies later in play gain three spells from the Order's Formulary for 'free' at a rating of 13.
- Orderlies are not technically required to Concentrate their magic, however many faiths make it a requirement.
- Concentrating allows Common Magic Spells (as well as the Spells of the Order) to be used Actively, though sometimes the religion may frown on the use of some common magic spells.
Virtues -- the Initiate can select any of the traits seen as 'good' or commonly found within their religion.
