Right. The City of Chicago is a major metropolitan area located near the shores of Lake Michigan on the North American continent. In the Prosaic History of the Third Age, it was formally incorporated in 1833. At the time of this writing, it had a population of over 3 million people (including surrounding suburbs). It was nearly destroyed in a fire, had a serious crime problem, had political problems, had racial problems, had a heat wave problem, yadda-yadda-yadda.

So it's strictly Third Age except for the fact that Anthurian Azurus took on a portion of it to build his Chancel. Unfortunately, this was the first (and only) city from the future which it attempted to abduct. And, with all due respect to a fundamental thread in the tapestry of Creation, he botched the job. The result is that the city simultaneously does and does not exist in the Second Age. The Wyrm takes it, there's chaos and panic, the Wyrm puts it back, then the Wyrm takes it again (because he never had it so his enChancelment is incomplete so he needs it), there's chaos and panic, the Wyrm puts it back (making his Chancel incomplete again), and so on and so on and so on.

Here's the interesting bit. Anthurian Azurus always puts it back, but he needs to cover up the madness it causes. The first time he did this, he caused a huge fire to break out. Then there was a crime wave. Then political corruption. You see what I'm getting at? The Mandala Principle (and careful manipulation thereof) is beautifully demonstrated in each catastrophe that befalls the city. Every time something bad happens to Chicago, it's another iteration of Azurus trying to incorporate the city.

But it's a royal pain in the ass for historians.

Quantum Archivists love the place. Then again, they don't exist. Fucking causality...
