Lowell Station

Deimos, Mars Orbit

Lowell Station is a small military installation built underneat a geodesic dome on the surface of Deimos, the smaller and more distant of Mars's moons. Its permanent population consists of only 14 personnel, but it usually has many more persons in short-term residence or transit. It is under direct Rocket Ranger Corps control, and serves as the headquarters for security in Mars orbit. Almost all of its food must be transported to the station via space freighter, so it is not renowned for its mostly freeze dried cuisine. However, it does have one claim to fame; the Deimos Martini. Roughly 30 feet below the surface of Deimos is a layer populated with an anaerobic fungus-like organism that sends sprouts up to the surface that can withstand vacuum and collect the meagre sunlight that reaches Deimos. This fungus, called Deimos Rot, may be extrasolar in origin, and causes a number of problems with equipment on Lowell Station, as it is metallovoric. Deimos Rot has an interesting characteristic; it produces a potent hallucinogen, which creates a number of strange sensory affects. However, Deimos Rot itself, even in highly diluted forms, is toxic. Conveniently, it seems the combination of herbal ingredients in a fine London Dry Gin seems to neutralize the toxins, although they cannot actually kill the hideously bitter flavour. Therefore, the Deimos Martini was born; one of the most obnoxious tasting cocktails ever created by humanity, and one of the wildest trips as well.

Weapons and Armor: Max 4, Markup 2. There are two separate "vendors" of weapons and armor on Lowell Station; Chief Petty Officer Edward "Fast Eddie" Gribbens is the Rocket Ranger Corps quartermaster, and Trix'324 is a Venusian merchant who has the license to sell to civilians in transit. Weapons and armor are fairly easy to obtain, here on the edge of civilized space.

Provisions: Max 7, Markup 3. Both "Fast Eddie" and Trix'324 also sell various provisions, at fairly reasonable prices.

Hospitality: Max 3, Markup 4. There is very little in the way of reasonable accomadations on Lowell Station. Military personnel must make do with military barracks, while civilians must either lease barracks accomodations or rent modular living quarters on the surface. There is only one place of "refreshment", the Blown Gasket, which is known for its dreadful food and its Deimos Martinis.
