Each Captain has a Virtue and a Vice. Use of Virtues to help you out in conflict is limited to a set number of instances and, while a Vice can help you out as much as you like, falling back on your Vice causes Strain.

What's Strain?

Strain has to do with the relationship between your character and Connections that your character has. Strain essentially hurts the relationship. You can reduce strain by choosing goals that the connection has a stake in.
