Characters from the various stories (in case it's appropriate to recycle them). Not to be confused with The Cast Of Objects.
- Anastasia, called "Annis" - A young mixed-race woman who sees things in black and white until the key is found.
- Charlotte, called "Char" - A young woman whose cancer-ridden mother died in a hospital fire. Loves candles.
- Crazy Toddler Eater (currently unnamed) - I ate a baby! Get in my belly! Toddlers A La Mode
- Elmira Smith - A young girl who witnessed a bank robbery.
- Enid - A woman (presumably) who Sam (the male one) failed to save. Flip
- Jerome - A king who died saving his people from the clockwork wolves... or, a crazy homeless man who died of a heart attack on the streets of New York. (Wolves And Madmen) Also, The Writer who buys a dreamcatcher and still owns some old toys.
- Joey (McGillicutty) - a daydreaming palooka who ran afoul of Rose Delaney in Six Ways To Sunday. Has a solid silver 'quarter' from his old man (and presumably from further back down the family line.)
- Masked Man - A former stockbroker-turned-priest in New York. Leaves of the Wreath
- Matthew - A privileged young boy, 13 when we meet him, who learns to play chess by listening, in The Snows of the Street. Also: A friend of Jerome's, presumably also homeless, and much older than the boy we first met.
- Melissa - The writer (and the king's) daughter. Only a child?, or is she?
- Olaf Jonson - A Swedish bank robber of the Old West. Had a skeleton key of intersting properties, as well as a treasure map. Presumably a bit crazy. Killed, possibly by Randall Davis.
- Randall Davis - A bank robber of the Old West. Known as the Mad Wolf. Fate unknown.
- Rick Paneta - An eight year old boy whose mother was killed. He retrieved a chess knight from her hand.
- Robert - who tells the tale of a snowy knight. Had a brother named Matthew. See also: Bobby, a friend of the protagonist in Invisibility, who fails to show up for the Halloween party the protagonist attends. See also: Bobby, in Mad Tom Of Bedlam.
- Sally - Vince's girlfriend in Six Ways To Sunday.
- Sam (female) - a friend of the protagonist in Bearings. Retrieves the Compass from the top of a casket, where it was left by the deceased's son. See also: Sam, in Mad Tom Of Bedlam
- Sam (male) - a man who committed a dirty dead in order to save his beloved Enid. Flip
- Sarah - Jerome's wife, and mother to Melissa
- Tom - Mad Tom Of Bedlam
- Troy - a young fellow who brings colour to someone's world, by unlocking the door.
- Vince - a hardworking joe just trying to take care of his friend in Six Ways To Sunday.
- Wade McGillicutty - A bank robber of the Old West. Wealthy for a time, but eventually caught and hung.
