On a rise overlooking the Deadland is an ancient oak who was old when grandfather's grandfather was a boy. It reaches ten horselengths into the sky and one can travel to the lower air from its highest branches. It stands along in an area where no other tree can survive because it has roots that reach below the barren land around it and taps water very deep underground. Grandfather Oak is ancient and wise. He watches over all the lands around him. When we come to his area we consult with him for he watches the Deadland and can help us survive there when we must and watches to the south and east too and can tell us where the bison are, where the buries grow, and where the fires are, for he sees all of the lands. In exchange, we leave him sacrifices at his trunk and we dance a dance that pleases him; an ancient dance that dates back many generations.

Grandfather Oak is not only wise, but he is powerful too. He is filled with the power of the earth and he laughs at the Sons of Thunderbird when they dance around him. You can hear his laughter as his limbs move and shake as the strongest of the Sons of Thunderbird dance around him, but while they destory most things in their path, they only tickle Grandfather Oak.
