- Cliffhanger: The Hart of Darkness drops out of U-space and slides into orbit. This colony has a moderate size population -- large enough to warrant a psych hospital and rest clinic, where Durell is now locked up. Alysande takes a couple of her crew with her on the Hart's pinnace, to the surface. She's escorted in to see him in a large room with several others who are quietly resting. "Captain," she says, not letting any confusion or sadness about seeing him in this state (he'd always been a reliable rock for her father, and kindly toward her) come through in her voice. "I'm here to find out about my father." "I was afraid of that," Durell replies, regretfully. A pistol appears from under his lap blanket, echoed by similar movements from the other "invalids" in the room. "That means you're going to have to be taken care of, too."
