The captain of an interstellar luxury cruise ship who, with is crew, is trying to prepare for the Scourge.
PERSONALITY
Nils comes from a family who raised their son to be a warrior against the inevitable return of the Scourge. This tends to leave him a little -- serious, though he can FAKE genial harmlessness with the best of them.

- Cliffhanger: As the Dream approaches Rala for it's carefully timed leisure stop, the Captain Belinar is entertaining the captain's table with a story of his youth as an acid-crab fisherman on Caliban. His steward taps him on the shoulder, and explains that the "big black chest in your room, sir...it's making an odd noise".
Belinar excuses himself, and summons Rev Ray and Katya to come with him to his cabin, whilst Shandar takes over at his table. As they get to the door to the cabin, they see Brad standing outside the cabin door, making odd sounds. "I'm trying to communicate with whatever is in there," he says.
Rev Ray carefully opens the door, and inside, they see that the black trunk, silent and cool for generations, is making an odd sound. As they carefully approach, the chest starts making more agitated sounds, and the ship lurches to the side.
The chief navigator pages Nils, and tells him "The ship has just set itself for a landing on Rala!, and the helm has stopped responding!"
Everyone looks at each other and then Nils says quietly, "Too bad this ship isn't capable of entering atmosphere...."
