Dear Mr. Luc Ginneis,

I am writing in the hope you will be able to help me in my difficult situation. My name is Yossi Pareto, I was a Star Sergeant in the Scapegoats (338th Metaphysical Cavalry), except my unit doesn't exist any more. I served with the 'Goats in 8 major campaigns including Operation Blind Watchmaker? and the mess on N.U.B. and was promoted in the field for valor, also because all the senior sergeants had gotten the bug.

I believe my unit was one of the last to see action before the history got broken. We force-marched 36 hours halfway around this little moon to get at the Beyonders. We marched in and out of dead cities and I can tell you we were all ready for a fight by the time we got to this place, Azazel's Nobles told us it had been the most sacred place on the whole world, but it was just another extinct volcano to me. After about 3 hours of fighting, the actual Beyonders showed up on their horses, and no one will ever convince me that it wasn't a full Riding of them. Well of course we weren't able to stand up to that kind of firepower. Three of them rode out towards our flank, and I was firing my Vortex Blaster and getting ready to die when all of a sudden they look up, so *I* look up, and there's Azazel manifesting right over us, a pillar of smoke and shadow like in the old days. See, I think either our side or theirs made a terrible mistake, and the worldshakers were going to come to direct blows right there. And then I think I died.

Except that I found myself naked and wounded on that nameless moon, and the autocthons were all alive again, and there were a handful of other 'Goats there and no Beyonders. I don't know if we won or lost. When we finally made it back to civilization -- and that was hard without the ether, of course -- it was already mid 1900's again. And I still have the Queen's Crooked Sixpence?, and I still have the Indelibility that Azazel painted on me, so I can't be miracled, but there's no Legion and no Cavalry anymore, and no pension either. I had a little problem with trathala? but that's no issue anymore.

Mr. Ginneis, I have fought my war, and I wouldn't give nothing for it. But I can't stand living with people who don't know nothing about what happened and the price we paid. Please let me become a Valet?. I need someone to serve.
