Mundane Time in Nobilis is changeable, often-times it is self-changing. When an Imperator miraculously changes the world, all of the mortal memories, records and other evidence change as well. If an Imperator creates a man of thirty, they also create thirty years of history: the man has a family, friends, school-yard rivalries, everything. Even in the absence of Imperial Miracles, Mundane History has its own currents and shifts. For instance, some cities slowly migrate, retroactively changing where they were founded. Mortals never perceive these changes in history. Indeed, to a mortal whose memories have changed along with everything else, there is no change. To a Noble, whose memories are outside the flow of Mundane reality, the changes can sometimes be brutally dissonant. Most memorable of these was the erasure of the a period of about 500 years. A little over one hundred years ago, human history was set back en masse by five hundred years. One day it was the year 2400, and space-ships plied the aetheric currents between earth and the colony worlds. The next day it was 1900 again, and the world, the history books and all (well, enough) mortal memory had been changed so that it seemed normal for it to be 1900. Naturally, what has happened since then has not conformed to what happened between 1900 and 2000 the first time around.
