The following material is intended solely as a sketch. A big part of playing Trollbabe--or Star*Babe--means letting go of obsessive little details: if something sounds like it would be cool to you and your gang, "make it so." First ContactIn the early twenty-second century, an alien vessel visited our solar system, and made contact with the astonished people of Earth. The amazons—our term for them, not their name for themselves--were sort of like telepathic starfish-turtles. Untold ages ago, they were merely animals, until another species “uplifted” them into sentience and then vanished. The group of amazons that visited Earth is on a pilgrimage to find the homeworld of their mysterious gods. They gladly shared the secret of faster-than-light travel with us, on the condition that we share any future exploratory data with them. In our journeys, we encountered two other intelligent species: the Stone Age moonbats and the untrustworthy za. Expansion and WarOver the next two centuries, humanity spread into every halfway habitable star system, until there were over a hundred fledgling colonies. Some of these colonies created joint governments, and those governments began to wage war against their rivals. Enormous fleets bombarded each other in high orbit. Robot drone soldiers fell through the atmosphere and slaughtered defenseless settlements. The war lasted almost two hundred years. Many colonies were lost. Earth changed hands so many times, and was the target of so much nuclear firepower, that it's barely habitable today. Billions died. The Galactic ConcordAfter so much destruction, the three surviving nations agreed to end the fighting, and for that purpose created a transnational government, the Concord. Headquartered on Earth, the Concord's role is to keep the peace, and rejuvenate all the ruined colonies the Core nations are too cheap, lazy, or heartless to rebuild. The nations gave the Concord authority to settle international disputes, but that's a very delicate matter: if the Concord presses one side too hard, the war might flare up again and destroy the rest of humanity. ...And This is Where You Come InYou're a field agent for the Concord, and it's a heavy responsibility. Your career path has taken you to a region of space known as the Verge, separated from Core space by many lightyears. Your mission is to survey the Verge worlds, taking what actions to restore peace and tranquility might seem best by your own judgment. During the war, the seven Verge colonies lost contact with their parent countries. Some colonies flourished; others fell into anarchy. Now that the war is over, the Core nations have returned to the Verge, seeking to restore, rebuild, and rearm. The Core nations want to change the Verge colonies, maybe for the better, maybe for the worse, but always in the face of local opposition. Both the locals and the newcomers will expect you to get involved, whether you want to or not. All sides in the conflict will seek to help you, harm you, or exploit you. Good luck! Back to Star*Babe |
