I’m taking a ‘regular campaign’ hiatus for the month of November so I can do other stuff-that-is-not-gaming. Interesting conversation today.
Player: So are you dropping [game] permanently or starting it back up after November?
Me: I’m starting it back up for sure.
Player: Oh. [pause] I don’t think you should.
Sometimes I become glaringly aware that I have no idea what’s going on around me in terms of my friends and acquaintances. It was (apparently) true in college (something that’s become clear to me in recent months, talking with my old college friends), and it seems as though I’m pretty well out of the loop even today.

So, I won’t ask who said it but I’m curious as to which game you “shouldn’t run” anymore.
(I know we already had this talk, but I figured I should say something here)
As the “I don’t think you should run it” guy, I’m glad that I was wrong about your desire to continue playing. However, as I don’t want you to be oblivious as to why I said it, I thought I should let you know my reasoning.
My whole reason for having the conversation was that you didn’t seem to be “into” the Star Wars game from my perspective and generally wasn’t happy with the game.
I misread some comments you’ve written and completely missed others that said he did want to continue it.
And to be perfectly frank, that particular session was a really off one for me: I don’t know my character yet (and thus assumed no one else really does either), it seems we’re more focused on plot than roleplay (which I think I perceive because the current story ran longer than expected), and I really didn’t play (took Jackie to buy some drives), then when we got back she interrupted a bunch of times trying to get the drives installed, which was *really* distracting as we were trying to wrap up the story.
Away from the games in social situations, the D&D game is talked about. Alot. Heck, even some of the in-game tangents end up being talks about the D&D games. We never talk about the SW game away from the game. Just another reason why I thought interest was being lost.
I’m glad I’m wrong. I really want to keep playing Star Wars and figure out my character and make him three-dimenstional.
Now, the question is, how do fit a Firefly game into the mix?
What’s ironic about this is that we accomplished every single thing that I wrote out for that game session. I know that seems weird, and Lori said as much when I told her that today, but we got everything done that I was planning and then some — I had to make the whole last scene up because we’d gotten further than I’d intended and I hadn’t thought about what would come next. (Which is good.)
To me, it feels like we’ve been more on track and getting more done plot-wise for the last couple session… sometimes even character-wise as well (that does happen more slowly, since we’ve got a big group, but it is happening I think).
I agree that the interruptions like we had were really distracting, but I also know it was pretty much a fluke occurance it is under normal circumstances.
That’s such an odd thing for me to read – I’ve never realized it might be that way – to me, it only comes up when high-level games come up and I need an example – it’s the only one I have (except for when I played Seamus in Bruce’s campaign, which I really didn’t enjoy).
I talk about it at the DnD table, I think… sometimes a lot.
I wonder how much we normally talked about TiHE when we weren’t playing. Dunno.
Generally, when it comes to talking about the story, I mostly talk about Star Wars, since it’s the only thing I’m really making up myself right now.

I think that pretty much means that it’ll be a miracle if it comes off before the 13 episodes of the first season air.
I’m finding the SW game interesting, in terms of watching the plot(s) unfold, and having a chance to play in that particular genre and universe. That said, things do seem to revolve around the plot more than the characters (and I’m not sure how I would change things to make that happen, so I can’t particularly hold anyone responsible for that). That the plot has been well crafted helps make up for that a great deal, however.
(Okay, here’s one thought off the top of my head, which means it’s probably got at least one bald spot on it. Rarely is there ever anything in the SW game that happens to or involves just an individual, as opposed to the group, or a subgroup. That is, of course, at least partially the players’ responsibility, and it’s also something that can spiral into chaos with several players around the table. As I’m making this up off the top of my head, it also occurs to me that my own personal GM style tends to be more individual- rather than group-oriented, which is probably why I went a little nuts back there.)
I’ve heard a lot of talk about that particular session being problematic. Frankly, I didn’t think we were any more off-task than usual, and I was surprised by the number of comments to that end.
I hear a lot about the D&D game off-line, probably more than SW, but that’s because it’s a high-level game full of unusual surprises. People certainly seem to be generally enjoying it.
I, like Rey, am evil, and am awaiting a Firefly game, if not campaign.
So in a Firefly game would we make new characters or become/play the actual crew??
If we play the current crew I wanna be Kaylee or Inara!!!
