Pretty normal weekend. Mom-in-Law was in town, so Jackie and I had lots of ‘free’ time. M-i-L fooishly thought this would mean us going out to a movie or something, but there was nothing much out that we both wanted to see, so… CoH!
Hype and Syn, if I remember right, and some time on the kheldians.
Saturday, deleted Lightborne and rerolled him as Epitaph — same background, same basic build (but taken in an order more accurate to the background, etc.)… put in his application with the Guard.
Saturday afternoon, Hype and Syn participated in the CoJ “Cavern of Transcendance” Trial, which has been nicknamed the Cavern of Pain for some very good reasons that… just didn’t seem to apply here.
As Syn-player said, “This is not the trial I ran with [my other character]. This was fun!”
And it was. We smoked that thing in record time. No deaths. Hype got to mess around and fight some of the baddies while standing down in the lava (a trick I first pulled with Archon Burkholder in the Hess TF), and Dave’s group-friendly build of Honey was a total godsend.
Sunday consisted of a really late start with Hype and Syn, since the morning was an interminably-slow-starting run on the Fortune Teller mission with Epitaph (already level 7) and a bunch of folks, OOC. The TF Twins picked up Omega Level clearance from the Vice-President (revealing to us one of the Really Cool Secrets of The Game) and tore most of the way through the “Terra” Devouring Earth arc, then we pulled together a ‘Dream Team’ to run the Eden Trial, recounted here.
I’d done this trial with HT; it was fun at the time, but mah boy died like… 8 times? Nasty, nasty trial.
This time?
Flawless. Fast. Fun. No deaths. Just… awesome. Hype and Syn also dinged 40 in the process.
So, this weekend: Cavern and Eden Trials — both cakewalks.
Might have something to do with folks we play with, I think.

Yup…just maybe. 🙂
I know that there are great team up’s and very good players. I also know that there are very, very bad players. I do my best, not always successfully, to avoid those players.
Puck does good in most situations…even when the team goes in two seperate directions (one group gets minime, and the other gets Puck).
But Puck functions best with either a good Tank or Scrapper to draw agro…or in a two+ controller team (which was surprisingly scary with Puck/Noelle/Rose Mage).
Zazi, before I5 hits, is a tank. She is scary in combo with either Tsurara or Kessa, and as long as they remember to target whatever Zazi is hitting, it is just a mow down of baddies. Since she is hitting with defense debuffs with all but two of the attacks, everything she targets just gets nuked by the blasters. Saphire Celest needs some help learning that.
Also, she rocks with in the Amorpha/Psi-Clone/Zazi team (pshaw…four levels over…not a problem 🙂 )
CoH is, especially at present, a game of not making mistakes. If you don’t make mistakes — draw the aggro you know you shouldn’t, have toggles down you intend to have up, stuff like that — 19 times out of 20 you’ll be fine. (This doesn’t count bugs like the auto-exemp ambushes, of course.)
You can usually control your own mistakes (one hopes). You can’t control others. So running with competent players usually means relatively smooth runs. Relatively meaning that remaining 5% can really kick your ass, but sooner or later you’ll make it through.
Playing with good players, on the other hand, makes a smooth time a good time. And we had good players in the Trial.
Yeah.. There are some people who I simply won’t play with if I can avoid it. Not because they are bad people, but because they are simply awful players.
The teams with the group of you… Wonderful. Not only because you are great people, but because you all know how to play your characters to the hilt, so all I have to do is remember to tap my attack keys every so often and not worry about anything except doing my best with my character which definately makes it a lot more fun.
