Every tribe has a spirit talker to intercede with the spirits local to each area the tribe moves through. The spirit talker is generally tribal elder and can be either a man or woman. The calling to "talk with the spirits" is rare, but every generation in a tribe has one or two young men or women who are drawn to this. These young men and women will act as aids and students to the spirit talker, with their parent's and the spirit talker's permission. The spirit talker recommends a successor to the Council of Elders who must approve the heir to the position.

The spirit talker is usually a shaman and if possible the heir to the position will also be a shaman. The tribe expects the shaman to pacify spirits that need it and they will worship and recieve aid from friendly spirits. Every living thing has a spirit and many nonliving things have spirits. The Ajzerian's know that cooperation between themselves and the spirits of the plain are essentail to their survival and prosperity. All adult Ajerzian's participate in the dancing, singing, and celebrating that is involved in worshipping Ajzerian spirits. (There are some rare spirits that require only men, women, elders, braves, or some other subgroup to worship them.)

All Ajzerians participate in Animism through the intersession of the tribal spirit talker. Spirits vary greatly in what, if any, magic they offer the average Ajzerian. Ajzerians are free to worship all spirits that they encoutner, and received magic from each, so long as the spirit is not hostile to other spirits that they worship. Part of the job of the spirit talker and assistants is to provide appropriate Charms for members of the tribe to use in day-to-day activities. Charms provide a passive magical bonus for the user anytime that they are appropriate. They require no active concentration and no incantation to use.

Generally, only the spirit talker and assistants have concentrated Animism, so they are the only tribe members who have access to active magical affects. Many assistants do concentrate magic and continue to help the spirit talker's throughout their lives, though they never move to a position of spirit talker themselves. These are noted individuals. Anyone who is blessed with speaking to spirits is considered to be both blessed and cursed, and is always regarded as a bit out of step with the norm in society.
