The Ultimate Roleplaying Purity Quiz was reasonably fun, but I like the commentary best:

As humans, we’ve evolved so that we can create all sorts of beautiful things – the Mona Lisa, Citizen Kane, Allyson Hannigan – but deep down, buried in our medulla oblongata, there’s a reptilian brain that only wants to kill and eat people. Likewise, roleplaying has changed over the years to include politics and emotional exchanges – but never forget that in the beginning, it was all about the ass-kicking.

Amen, brother, amen.

  1. Yeah. This is somewhere on the border of ‘your Gamer-Fu is mighty’ and “seek professional help”.
I should point out that not all the things I checked are true *at this moment*… I’ve grown out of some of the hacky-goodness, for example, but I can remember when…
I thought my systems knowledge score would be lower, but they named practically every system ever made, and I can see that the average score is pretty dang high, so maybe a 60-something is low.
NOW here’s a question: when you were checking off Rules Knowledge stuff, did you think of a rules system that they hadn’t listed that you thought they should have?
    I thought of three.

  2. Five. Six. Seven.
That’s just looking at my current shelves of game stuff, not all the stuff I’ve sold over the years.
How about this: I was wondering why they hadn’t listed “Space Hulk” when they had listed Warhammer Fantasy RPG. (Then again, we played spacehulk a bit differently from most folks. MAN that’s a fun game.)

  3. I like the “has conversations between massacres” part, And I thought that having no score above a 65% was bad…
    How about you Zuul?

  4. Yeah, their ‘hacksalot’ questions were sorta rules lawyery for me — I got no credit at all for Jacob’s impaling of 4500 of his own troops and storing their souls in jars… how inaccurate is that?

  5. Traveller, Gamma World, Space Opera, Ogre, the Claw/Spell/Sword Master series, the Middle Earth RPG. What really amuses me these days is working with people to whom I can say, “I was rolling for critical hits when you were still sucklin’ at yer momma’s teat.”
